[X2] Best Detroyer; Best Equipment

Hi,

which of the destroyers is the best one? (I guess for fighting the Xenon)
Which selection of weapons is the best one then?
I saw that AEGIS weapon system, what does it do?
I heard about space marines but are they an X2 thing? How to get them then?

"Best" is always partly subjective. However, for raw destructive power Paranid Odysseus is a good choice.

AEGIS is a script/ship upgrade in X2 Bonuspack. It is the cherry on the top of with Gunnery Crews. Crews are a ware. Occasionally (not often) there is a TP that has crew as passengers and heads to some Station. For a very brief moment the crew can be bought before it vanishes. I used to have TPs in standby, ready to purchase.

There seems to be a FAQ about AEGIS&Crews.

I had Odysseus with AEGIS and crews. Its cargobay had:

90 Military personnel (i.e. the crew)
 9 gPPC
 6 bPPC
 3 aPPC
 9 gPSG
 9 bPSG
12 gIRE
 5 125MW Shields
ECells for jumping
There is not much room for jumpfuel. Docking Orinocos or Rangers to M2 as spare fuel tanks was common.

A thing about phased shockwaves: they are area effect weapon. Everything around you will melt. Great with Xenon and Kha'ak. Trouble, if Xenon is next to blue/green ships.


No, X2 did not have "marines". X3TC did introduce Marines that you use to board large ships. Xenon K is the only large ship in X2 that can "bail", in special conditions.

This really is essential if you want to get those personnel. When the transport docks, the military personnel are only available for a very short amount of time. So, you really do need to have your own transport standing by, and you must keep an eye on the military transport as it approaches the station. If you are too late, the crew will be gone, and you'll have to start the whole process again.

I have now almost all weapons installed and was also lucky to buy around 100 Gunnery Crews in the second attempt.

The Python should really have been the best one. Instead of removing one of the front firing PPCs they should have added one. It doesn't really make sense that the Split's M2 has less firepower than all the others.

Indeed. In X3R Python was then the king (although, for top level assassinations Raptor was awesome -- without fighters).

Xenon K can outrun and out-turn every other M2. Alas, it has only PPC.
