The point is that I'm currently on a mining only game and I thought I'd mention the sort of profits I was making as a reference figure. Your silicon trading scheme is FAR BETTER in cash terms and it's something I shall look into.

Mining is a time consuming process - I've recently spent 90 minutes mining an area to fill my TL (about 28,000 cargo space in total). A different process would be to buy/sell silicon on a giant scale and hop around in a TL. The only problem is that markets saturate quite quickly. I would bet that doing what you suggested but in a TL might be even more profitable...

...I keep finding new ways of playing the game...

Phwoar, that's some hardcore mining there, buddy. :)
And here I am with my humble 1 Teladi Vulture + 2 Boron Manta getup :o

Battlepuppy, you're more than welcome, hope it brings you much profits!

Creston, that's some brilliant and organized headwork there! I was starting to look at the credits per cargo unit aspect of trading, and you've nailed it. Everything you suggested makes sense. It even helps the mobile mining profession.

Thanks for taking the time to share your findings and present them so clearly.

You need a trading system extension installed to use them (Helpful answer, eh?)

They're availible at all good equipment docks.

A question - can i send a computer piloted cargo ship somewhere, and buy stuff remotely when it gets there ? if so how, and what equipment has to aboard to do this?

Yes you can, but it's a bit of a hassle to do so, in my opinion.

You need a remote trading extension installed in your own ship, and a Best Buy / Best Sell locator will be very beneficial too. You don't really need to put anything in the remote ship except for a Navigation Software. (Actually, I think you can even skip that, since every ship can automatically dock itself to a given station).

Look at your list of vessels you own (R), and select the ship you want to trade remotely. Go into the Command Console (C), then Navigation (1), then order it to dock at the station of your choice.
Once it's there, go to the ship again via the owned menu (R), and select trade with station. Buy stuff like you normally would, then send the ship off somewhere to sell it, via the Command Console's Navigation menu.
This is why the Best Sell locator comes in handy, because it will allow you to select it while looking at the different sector your remote ship is in. (Just hit 5)
Have the ship dock there, and then sell via the same method as described above.

Like I said, it's a bit of a hassle. I can trade about twice as fast if I do it myself rather than having a remote ship do it.

Glad you liked it, Scribblette :)

Bit of a hassle, yeah, but it's useful when you're out exploring the galaxy. I've visited most of the systems in the game, but, unfortunately, have recently had to restart the campaign, so it's back to exploring the galaxy for me. Still, though, even if you're content to trade in a half-dozen or so systems, it's worth it to head south and visit the Paranid home systems, some of them are quite breath taking.

Back on topic though, g'damn Creston, that's a pretty slick method for rakin' in the dough!

Hi Stig,

The "5" key bit can actually be a bit misleading, since it doesn't work on every screen. To always get to the best buy, best sell locator, press enter while you're flying around, go to the Navigation screen, and that's where you'll find two menu options for them. That should always work.

Let us know if it doesn't.
