No guilt here. Although I didn't go out of my way to "exploit" it, if I didn't need to dock to complete the mission then I just carried on, if I did then cool, I got a couple of extra Medusa Prototypes for all the trouble I had to keep the Duke's HQ in tact. Plus, I have the PHQ and can build them whenever I want anyway.

Not sure about the corp's with M6 rewards though, might feel a little exploity to get several HCPs but again, it's no effort to build them and I could easily afford to buy Skirons, earlier in the game I might have felt different.

I also don't feel bad about reloading to get a higher rep gain after the mission, there's an over use of RNG in this game at times - give me a bigger rep increase if I complete the mission faster, great! Entirely random, Why?
Where's the kaboom? There was supposed to be an earth-shattering kaboom!

Haha. I was on my way writing the same, but was to tired yesterday.

So I am not alone with my thoughts... ;-)

I can understand they used the RNG to make the missions feel a bit more dynamic. +18% on each mission would be a bit boring and feel quite "mechanical". Maybe they overachieved by making the randomization nearly one third of the possible outcome. But then again it's not thaaaat important.

It would have been nice if the corp missions would be actual missions, some kind of miniplot. NMMC might focus on setting up some trading opportunities, Atreus on protecting their assets, Duke's on smuggling / thugging...

Yeah but did it make you in the least feel a little bad?

I plan on keeping these special ships till I can reverse engineer them.
=D
Me too. So some extra "material" is never ever wrong. I would like to receive every second/third mission a Venti, rather than the "worthless" money.
Well maybe next time I might get 1 or 2 extra...

The mission are just a big waste of time for me they are well below the paycheck I normally accept a mission for.

Missions I normally seek out pay about 1.5-2mil. But the corporation mission are only paying me 300K =(

Thanks Deadbeat_Spinn

Really good guide, but the PDF download link does not work...

Is there some where else I could get it?

THanks

Sorry about the delay in response, RL has been taking a toll of late. I'll take a look into the link and see if I can get it fixed.

Edit: Linked should be fixed momentarily, the file remained active at the site but I think something got changed in the url. I'll do a check on my other guides as well.

Ok, my marine guide pdf link was borked as well but not the carrier guide. Links for all three should now work.

Assisanation missions with minimal rep loss.

Post by niadh » Sun, 6. Oct 13, 00:20

First off apologies for resurrecting this thread but as I had recently been running a couple of DiD games I thought it would be useful for folks to know.

Game version is 3.2c off steam

If you are wanting to carry out the Dukes missions with minimal loss of rep you have to do 2 things.
1. Don't fight too much. Keep you rank down to skilled or below.
2. When you get assassination missions don't shoot anyone. guns or missiles.
Ram them.

I tend to use a Skate or Perseus with full shields and a Turbo Boost Mk1.
Get to within 500m and engage turbo.

Keeping your fight rank down means you only get M5 or possibly M4.
You can plow through both of these and get no hit to your rep.

It's worked for me on 30 such missions. My fight rank doesn't go up and my Paranid rank doesn't go down.
Dukes rank is now 6 Specialist.

^ threads like this one should be considered just asleep and not 'necro', as it is still relevant to all current TC games, and is a guide. It does help if you mention your game version too, as this helps update the info process.

Thankfully while doing TC, I read this guide prior to starting my corporate missions. I read about the multiple ship exploit and made sure I maxed my ship rewards out for each corprations reward, just to save time re'ing some ships ... (no qualms at all - some great ships) wonder if the latest version of TC still lets you do that? :)

I realize this is an old thread but it's a very good thread that I have to comment on :)

I got to "Professional" for Jonferco and I received the mission to return to their base BUT I didn't make it in time and I got a new message that they have a new mission for me. When I got there and comm'ed the base, there was just the mission and no ship docked. I have not docked, as I understand it you aren't supposed to dock. I did the mission, got another message to just return to base, and still no ship. I switched ships and comm'ed them, no ship. What's broken here? Or am I supposed to dock the first time? I haven't docked yet.

you receive the reward after docking. if you manage to complete several missions in a row without docking after hitting the "reward rank", you will receive multiple copies of the ship - one per each mission completed without docking.

missions possible to complete without docking are:
  • kill before ship reaches destination
  • kill at any time
  • defend station
  • follow ship
  • taxi from HQ
  • taxi to HQ
Despite the looks of it, it takes about 3 seconds for the reward to trigger after you dock. that is why if you undock quickly after picking the passenger up for taxi mission (or dropping him off at HQ), you still get to complete the mission without triggering the reward, getting 1+ to your reward ship counter.

taxi to HQ is actually easiest to trick this way, because the passenger gets off instantly after you dock. disable auto save, save before docking using insurance, dock and instantly undock. you should pull this off easily

taxi from HQ is trickier, the passenger doesn't get on your ship instantly, it takes him some brief amount of time, and it's just a fraction of second before you get rewarded with the ships after docking. usually accepting mission before docking, then saving the game, and undocking exactly as Betty finishes speaking the very last syllable of "successfully docked" does the trick for me, but your experience may vary.

deliver missiles is too slow, can't do it without triggering the reward.

good luck.
