How do you equip TS ships for Station Managers and Universe Traders?

Post by Elthy » Tue, 20. Jul 21, 11:41

The Question is twofold:

-What equipment do you give your traders? I find it kinda hard to know from which upgrades they profit at all, is e.g. a best selling software important?
-How do you apply the equiptment? Is there a way to mass-equip several ships at once after you finished the initial purchase at the equipment-dock? Its extremly tedious to equip 10 ships with jumpdrives, shields and energy cells one at a time...

Bonus question: Which TS do you use the most? I like the kaiman hauler, as it has a nice combination of speed and cargo capacity while being way cheaper than the armored transports.

Traders buy some equipment as they level up. As far as I know, that's Trading System Extension, Transporter, and Jump Drive. I haven't heard mention of anything else they use, but I add the Triplex Scanner and Best Buys. The Triplex helps spot enemies when OOS and the Best Buy is for when I need to manually intervene and want the trader to find e-cells for its jumpdrive. I do NOT install any combat software or weapons as combat just gets them killed.

You can mass-equip ships at a shipyard, but not at an Equipment Dock. At the HQ, you can save a template for a ship, and then apply that template to other docked ships, but you have to have the equipment available at the HQ. Alternatively, if a ships has special command software, you can select "Apply Loadout".

Caiman Hauler is a good well rounded choice. I like the Dolphin for early game as it's a bit faster, has enough cargo for most trades, and weapons aren't needed. I slowly swap them out for Mules when I am able.

As has been said above, autonomous traders will now auto-upgrade as & when they feel it's necessary (& have the range/cash to do so at a suitable dock). I'm still unsure if best buy/sell s/w makes any difference to AI trading, but it's useful (if expensive) for an emergency manual (ie player-override-controlled) resource run..

It all depends upon the role of the ship & in which area they're operating. Caiman Haulers are excellent for ST & station supply use in peaceful systems, & can double as mining ships if necessary - /remember/ to give them max shields if <player> will be passing thru often! (IIRC they have the weps power to support an MDS, but a single gun of any type will let them collect rocks), but for more dangerous routes I used to use Chokaros as automated ST/UT ships, 'cos their speed + toughness would usually allow them to escape/survive random combat fairly quickly (esp if JD-fitted) whilst still having reasonable CC

In TC once Aldrin was discovered (& prior to opening it up to other sectors) I used ~4 unarmed/shielded Springys as ST/UT training ships for their speed & CC, but they've been nerfed since then, so I'm not so sure whether that's a viable strategy in FL.. :)(

BTW I never used more than ~4 UTs outside Aldrin: the wages, ship & trained pilot loss was more than I could stand, along with the uncontrollability (eg blacklisting/whitelisting certain sectors) of their ships never seemed to work properly for me :( Carefully-selected areas of ST trade was much more profitable IMO&E :)
