Plot Final Mission Broken? - solved by destroying more capital ships

Having reached the final mission sided with Terrans, I encountered a problem:

I've got to the defend of the orbital defence platform mission. The mission not aborts as soon as all fighters got killed. I reloaded my savegame several times, even killed 5 Boron M2, the mission is still active. I've heard from many peoples that killing fighters is enough to complete the mission. Do I have to kill all Commonwealth ships? Is it rank-dependant?

The main goal is to kill almost all capital ships (fighters are actually irrelevant), think the mission ends when you get their numbers down to 2.
