Can you still use an explorer ship to find these OOS, or do you have to find them personally? And will they show up with the SEWN?

there are actually 2 separate sets though, so 2 groups of 5 that will spawn, so technically, a maximum of 10 will be available.
1 group being close, and 1 group being far (requiring more searching in a sector)
Glad to know this - good system to assure some discoveries are easy to find while still rewarding deeper exploration. I've noticed that even 'far' discoveries don't seem to be extremely offset on the Y axis so you can spot them with a simple map sector command starting a 0,0,0 after you purchase the clue. Not like AP where you had to repeatedly search a 300km plane up and down the Y axis in hopes to find a hidden crate.

there is only a 2km variance in the Y Axis, so everything should be fairly close to ecliptic

Thanks, now my question is, how do I get more discovery points? I've already visited every sector I have access to (haven't been able to start the Terran plot yet, I assume I have to build a TOA for that to happen which I've heard is one of the few ways to get points?
Some asteroids give points when scanned. Clicking on one such asteroid will tell you how many points, but the player-ship has to be the one doing the scanning or you don't get any. Most asteroids in discovered sectors give points.
What about the player ship doing it on autopilot? With sectors with many asteroids, I set the autopilot to scan asteroids and turn on SETA. Using my Arrow for the task, it doesn't take long :D

I too would like to know the answer to this. The lack of a guidance arrow for such discoveries is most annoying. I do wonder if the item only spawns after you purchase the discovery information or if it already exists and this clue just hints which sector it's in.

UPDATE: Flying my Arrow I was able to find a discovery that I had the misfortune of turning up in Xenon 596 by using the "map sector" command set to a range of 50 km which did trigger the HUD indicator when I got close enough. The discovery? Some engine tuning. Normally I save those for when I have a ship I want to apply them to, but because of how suicidally dangerous it would be to bring a slower ship to pick it up I reasoned the only solution was to pick it up there and then. So now the fastest ship in the game is even faster!

My miners finally finished with those three 1-yield asteroids, in total they gathered 1,689 Nividium, so per asteroid that's 563. Any idea what I should sell it for at my HQ?

I managed to steal the JD installation kit, progress wasn't helped by Terracorp and OTAS hating each other's guts. Weirdly I didn't get a notification it had worked, took me a while to realize it had appeared in the "equipment packs" section of the HQ.

Set it as a "product" (not "tradeable") so the station won't purchase any, & set the price to maximum, every so often a trader will just buy a full cargohold's worth, & "Distress Sale" prices for cargo have been nerfed in X3FL so you actually get less than the listed "minimum" per unit.

The problem with selling Nividium previously was that if a product can be both purhcased & sold, the AI treats <Average+1>Cr (or higher) as "Buy this ware" & <Average-1>Cr as "Sell this ware" (& I have no idea what it treats <Average +/- 0>Cr as).

Got the price at max, no interest yet- might be because the HQ is in the ass-end of nowhere! Having recently gained access to the NMMC Owl with its huge cargo capacity I'll be able to use it to help relocate my HQ to a more accessible sector, meanwhile I'm going to send my miners to get some more of that Nividium.

I just verified that you don't get discovery points if the autopilot is doing the scanning, even if it's the player ship. It still doesn't take that long to do it manually and it's kind of a nice diversion to just fly around and scan without worrying about fighting. I prefer the Advanced Kestrel because it can use the Triplex Scanner and Turbo Booster. It goes about 1000 in turbo and doesn't really need e-cells as its weapon/shield generators can keep it in turbo almost indefinitely - at least until the Booster needs a 'cooldown'.

UPDATE: Managed to buy the Nividium mine plans from NMMC. I also gained access to the build software MK3, but I'll need 150M credits to make the purchase so that's going on the back burner.

I also managed to obtain an Enhanced Kea for its best-in-class cargo space in Teladi space, by waiting for the Heavy Osprey it was escorting to leave the sector via the gate then hosing him with eight EBCs from a Perseus I had claimed a while ago. He bailed straight away, I had fired no more than 30 shots so didn't have to worry about any other ships turning hostile or rep loss so now it's on its way to be reverse-engineered!

When looking to capture ships, see if you can find pirates flying those ships first. I got my Enhanced Kea by attacking pirates, I was going after the wingman Ammon but the Kea bailed too, so I took it as well.

I have noticed pirates flying Split Tigers, considering the Split hate me at the moment it might be the only way I can get one!

I was able to acquire & spend enough influence to get my notoriety to the level I needed for the mining software, I also installed copies on the 10 mistrals that I'd bought (Split currently hate me so they were the fastest TS I could buy, bought my Elephant while I could) and on the Ozias itself so I'm trying out mining the 1-Nividium asteroids in Holy Vision Epsilon.

No luck stealing the build plans, I'm going to need to get some more agents for both that and the JD installation kit that Terracorp offer. What other stuff do the corporations have that I should acquire?
Sorry I've been away playing other things. I'm never hated by NMMC so I apologize for that. As for the selling part of the Nividium, you can sell it from anywhere you choose. But the most profitable place is the PHQ since it doesn't cap you at small amount like a Trading Dock / Equipment Dock will. And the base mine itself holds 10/12 max? When merchants come to your PHQ they will buy enough to fill there holds. For me that has been on average 600 units of Nividium per visit. Sometimes I get multiple visits.

The ship I recommended as your roid buster can hold the Mobile Drilling System. And has a large cargo capacity. Plus strong shields for smashing into the rocks. I believe the ships labelled mining variants has the mining command software "built in". So you won't need to visit NMMC if you use those variants. I got a couple screen shots from my game if you need them. The downside to these smaller variants is you will not only need to empty there holds more frequently, but repair them more often as the AI can be dumb with the hull damage.

Again apologies on how long it took for me to respond.

Revisiting sectors will randomly give you points as well. I don't know the amount, but I believe its a number of sectors per hour revisited as you re-establish what is there.

I did get the JD kits from Terracorp and the Nividium mine from MNNC, I did manage to sell about 1.500 Nividium from the PHQ though I had to set the price to average-1 before anyone bought any, making 25M credits.

I've been mining the unclaimed sector next to Xenon 534, got 12 ships on the job: 10 mistrals, 1 Consus based at an Ozias, each TS has the mobile drilling system and ore collector. They've been at it 20 hours and gathered 11,000 Nividium and they still haven't gotten all of it from the 5-yield asteroid, never mind the hitherto-untouched 3 and 7. I've even tasked the Ozias itself with assisting the mining, so far the Mistrals have only each had to offload their contents to the transporter-equipped Ozias once.

Is there anything else I can do to accelerate the process apart from buying more Mistral-filled Ozias'? I chose those as the fastest TS that can equip the drill. I've been leaving them to it OOS so no worries about collision damage.

The only thing I do beyond that is send in a regular transport to take my goods to PHQ. That way none of my miners ever have to pause.

You can actually home-base tons of miners to a single Ozias since they only dock when offloading minerals. I have 22 miners based to my one Ozias. The TL is mining too so it auto-unloads at the HQ when full. If you want to go even faster, try getting in the Ozias and flying into the Nividium field at a very slow speed but with SETA on 10x. If your shields get low, just stop and wait for them to refill. You can usually collect a full cargo within about 15 minutes. It helps to use external view (f2) so you can see the rocks better.

Am I supposed to get tens of thousands of Nividium out of a yield-5 asteroid or is there something weird going on? I could try flying the Ozias manually, it's certainly well-shielded for a TL.

If you ever fly in system with those rocks, they are actually quite big in size. You can use as many collectors as you want, but personally, I only use as many as the Ozias can hold. Simple fact, if an enemy jumps in I prefer to be able to dock all my ships and jump them out as one. Saves a bit of credits on jump drives. But it's completely up to you how many you choose to use. My method was merely a starting point for anyone needing a bit of guidance.
