X3FL Map

Post by Rinin » Thu, 3. Jun 21, 17:54

I really like Rogues site, especially map, but sometimes map is a bit confusing, because the it is very tight packed. So I decided to make my own simple printable map.

Here is SVG version (google drive viewer is not the best though).
And here is the source file in case you want to adjust something to your own taste.

You will need free yEd editor to work with the source.

Version from johnydlr with sectors adjustments according to ingame view.

Very Good map!
Much better than (as you said) the packed other maps.
In your map the connections are much better.

6 additions:
- Dark Water can have a north TOA to Dark Water Beta
- Preachers Refuge can have a north TOA to Preachers Refuge Beta
- Terran story TOA west of Brennans Triumph Alpha which leads to Brennans Triumph Delta an from there to Asteroid Belt.
- The Vault is connected to Holy Vision Epsilon
- Ocean of Fantasy Gamma is Atreus and should be grey? Because the other faction sectors are grey (PTNI Beta, Rhonkars Trial, Legends Home...), too.
- Belt of Aquialar is connected to Grand Exchange Beta

The Void alpha, not the The Vault, is connected to Holy Vision epsilon.

Yeah i love Roguey's map, but sectors linked together do not looked "linked" anymore on his map making it quite hard to use it to navigate from a point to another :/

This is really good! I was thinking of doing something similar myself, but haven't gotten around to it yet lol.
One thing to add might be the connection to Terran sectors from
Show
the (eventual) TOA connection of Brennan's Triumph delta to Neptune (iirc), if the Terran sectors are shifted to the right a bit. Edit: Unless which sector is random? I could've sworn it was Neptune in my 1.0 game, not Asteroid belt. Maybe just a dotted upward line pointing toward Terran space lol
The only other feature requests that might make this a proper 5/5 star would-use-for-everything would be:
  • Markings for which sectors have equipment docks/shipyards/pirate bases
  • A small number marking how many jumps away from either Xenon 101 or 472 the sector is (though the Xenon Hub messes this up, so it's less important, but still useful)
  • A different marking showing which connectors are Jumpgates and which are TOA, mostly for planning purposes because trying to make an efficient factory and then remembering it's a TOA sector is sad >.>

I changed Cardinal's Domain Gamma layout a bit, as for other suggestions, they would be nice to have, but I'm likely not going to implement anything above bugfixes in the nearest future.

As for the terran plot, I didn't played it myself yet, so I have no idea =)

Spoiler

Its always Neptune, the gate in Asteroid Belt linked to Heretics End, before it was shut down

the trouble with is that im using the x/y cords of the sector... hmm, maybe I could try using \objects\cut\00749.bod for sector placement

Nice map, one note though: Seems you mixed earth and the moon up.

@Rinin, great map however this is still not the exact layout of the map as in game.

I have used all-seeing-eye to reveal the whole map and based on that I have readjusted your map to reflect the correct layout and position of all the sectors.
I have also added missing Xenon Hub but without any gates connections as they do vary.

Please find attached source file if you would like to change it and publish it.

What did you add or change to match the in-game one?

Ive updated my map to use 00749.bod now, so it should use the same layout in-game. I must admit it look kind-of odd before (and I could see being some what confusing).

ps. bod didnt work for X3AP, as the sectors are staggered oddly.

The only thing I have added was a missing xenon hub and changed the position of sectors to reflect the in-game map.
While you did it the smart way I did it the hard way (lack of 'know how to' on my part) by taking screenshots of in-game map and than combining all of them in one big map in GIMP

Roguey, Thanks for the updated version. It's amazing. Not gonna use my own map anymore unless I decide to print it. And thanks for the rest of the tools as well.

Would it be okay to bung a few links to it? or even host it? as I could see your map being very useful for those who want to print out a map. Its very clean and scales very well.
