Many thanks for fixing mining.

Post by mtiffany71 » Fri, 14. May 21, 21:17

Many thanks to the FL dev team. You guys rock (pun intended).

I 'm really impressed and happy with the new mining commands. They are so much more useful and just plain better than the standard (and very limited) vanilla mining commands for TC and AP. And these new commands are also not so game-breakingly OP like some of the scripts and mods that let you basically buy your way to mid-game in one or two hours on SETA.

And the new Falcon Miner is a dream come true. It made manually mining those small nividium asteroids in The Void actually fun.

And the consumption/production stats for NNMC Nividium mines are kind of hilarious

WRT mining, have you (or anyone else) looked at the Teladi Geochem miner ship yet? Despite its small cargo hold it looks like it could actually be quite a reasonable utility ship as its speed is surprisingly quick for a Teladi design, & doubling as a TP is a great bonus! :)

I've no idea if this design was in AP as it is in FL, but either way it's still pretty useful IMO!

Never played AP; all X3 advice is based on vanilla+bonus pack TC or before: AP has not changed much WRT general advice.

I actually didnt notice Geochan has a minor variant before. Interesting idea to have a mining TP. These Teladi folks are almost all the time are thinking about profitsss. :D

I personally like Falcon miner more. You can put 4 of them in a TM (preferably Pelican miner for high cargo) and jump around in the universe mining Nividium. Its very convenient. So far, I have mined over 200 million worth of Nividium from 4 Falcon miners and they keeps adding.

By the way, shall we share asteroids information? So we all can find Nividium easily. Profitsssss :D

So far I found,

Scale Plate Green is where my 2 Owls harvested Nividium worth around 75 million but now that's it's dry I was looking for new sectors.
Btw, also check out Owls at NMMC they have huge 31K cargospace (7000+ Nividium) but they'll probably need to be protected if Xenon shows up or at least a jumpdrive for emergency jumps.

I tried making money by boarding m6s and m7s, but that's not really effective. Got myself an Akurei though. :D Will try mining nividium now.

Hatikvahs faith has few Pirate capitals flying around. Comparatively easier to cap as their escort is blown out most of the time by constant traffic. You can also find 1 or 2 pirate TLs floating around which has no offensive armaments. Easy pickings, faster marine training and profitsssss.

of course another way to mine is to use the Teladi Drone Carrier, that can use its drones as a mining fleet

You mean the Cormorant (M7)? Is it the only drone carrier capable of using drones to mining? I personally dislike drones. Ships have personalities...drones...meh.

Im planning to use that Pirate mobile base TL as a home base for mining. I capped one yesterday and they are pretty fast and agile for their class. Finally I can retire my Pelican from mining duties.

Only the Teladi drones can do mining, but any drone carrier can use any of the drones

Do different weapons make a difference when using Automated Mining?

I think it doesnt matter. Specially in OOS. 2 IRES would be enough, or 2 PAC. Anything bigger would be an overkill.

But I personally like to equip at least 4 weapons (2 lasers in a weapon bay of 8 fuels my OCD).

OOS, not really; IS maybe, depending upon loadout. Certainly guns (prolly PACs) should be fitted (along with max shields) to discourage pilots from using their ships as battering rams & thus incurring hull dmg from 'roids/debris if mining IS

I updated the list of Nividium asteroid locations above. Lets keep adding stuff as we find.

I capped a Pirate TL, which is fairly agile and fast for it calss. Thinking of using it as a mobile mining base. I will probably add 6 more Falcons (total of 10 miners) and use it as a home base. Time to retire the good old Pelican Miner. :)

As I see in FL, Guppy and Ariadne cannot dock TS anymore. They would have become the perfect mining base with a docked heavy TS. Imagine an additional 25k cargo space.

Has anyone had any luck with selling Nividium using Bartering? If you have a trading station and put some Nividium on it, sometimes you may get barter offers locally.

I just fill them up in a cheap TS and sell with the ship. Its only half the price, but still a basic demeter is sold for 8 mil which is a lot of money.

Actually no it's not. You are selling it for minimum price that way. Why make less money when you can make more :D

I just store all my nividium at my HQ. I set the price at 15.000 (i'm sure you can set it higher) and NPCs are buying it all by themselves.
