The sandbox starts unlock fairly early, once you get the invisible door achievement.
Custom start is available from the start

Re: Goner start?
I like the game very much, it’s this handholding that was not mentioned as a Goner start.
I like to gather information first, go exploring, keep out of trouble, and then decide what to do and where!
I thought the Goner start was a good option as I play with no guns. The ship is just what I need. But this start I was not ready for, it being a step by step guide.
And you say in a couple of hours you are free ! Ya right !
I have been playing for over 21 hours, and still my hands are tied.

Re: Goner start?
Game time is now 23 hours !
The Bofu station is built and sitting inside the Green station.
The Split ship is docked.
Comms with
1 The captain.
2. Navigation officer.
3 Chut t’Hnk
4 Sao t’Plp
The Captain !
1 please follow me.
2 please move to shipyard.
3 please move to sector.
4 please move to position.
5 please stop your engines.
6 Way to nearest shipyard.
7 Way to nearest equipment dock?
The rest of the crew will only respond to the last 6, and 7 comms.
I am also docked at the station !
In the stations parameters, the Bofu station is at the top, but obviously can not be moved onto my little ship.
Non of the Split comms say to pick up the station.
What else is there! I am at yet an other sticky dead end.
What ever needs to be done next ! It is not at all obvious.
Do I have to go and bang my head against an asteroid.
May be twice…..

NO, LOL it has happened to me , you only need to tell to the builder, I think that you can tell to move to position, load and where to build the BOFU factory. something like this, I also had problems with it. make no sense.
Re: Goner start?
I fail to understand all the people telling the OP to go play the sandbox or the custom game.
He plays the x3FL probably BECAUSE it has new narrative and BECAUSE it has some different plots.
If he can't play it and he wants to play custom game he could already do that with X3TC he doesn't need FL for that!
Sorry but I can feel his frustration!

@OP
This mission is teaching you how to use "Rented" TL's to move stations around.
Message the Captain, get him to follow you to the sector with your HQ in it, once in sector message the captain tell him to dock at shipyard > select your HQ.
Once he's docked move the station from your HQ onto the Elephant, have the Captain move to where ever you want the station (I went back North one sector to be closer to my future buyers) and get him to deploy the factory.
Good luck and have fun!

There's alot more in FL than just a new plotdarrund wrote: ↑Sat, 8. May 21, 23:50I fail to understand all the people telling the OP to go play the sandbox or the custom game.

And a sandbox game in FL is not the same as TC

Re: Goner start?
The Split ship is docked at my shipyard, as am I.
Also bofu station is ready and waiting.
But I can not find how to get the bofu station from the shipyard onto the split ship.
Look at my options above, here is nothing to say pick up station.

Try to undock any of your own ships first, I think that this a bug. Only have the TL docked.Nort The Fragrent wrote: ↑Sun, 9. May 21, 02:39The Split ship is docked at my shipyard, as am I.

if you go into one of the menus (of your HQ) it has I think the BOFU thing and on the right side ship just go down to that line and right arrow and then enter to load it.
Once this is done, order the TL to go to the sector where you want build in.
Then you can comm him and order him to drop the station, you will be able to move it in 3D and hit enter to build it.

Re: Goner start?
Thank you.
Had to transfer the TSE, undock both trade ships. Me as well.
Only then could the the Bofu station be transferred, as the split ship was the only option.
This is like doing a Jigsaw with the pieces blacked over,
Heres a couple of pieces, guess where they go !
Bofu station is deployed, the thing is ! I do not want a Bofu station.
So have made it invisible in my property list, blessed thing flashing all the time demanding it be fed.
My Boron Tutor wants 2850 energy cells.
Wait for price to get down to 12 each.
Carry 2850 Energy Cells to the Boron Research station.
It’s Full, it will not take them. !
More waiting around !
Perhaps this tutorial was devised by collage students who frequently sleep every couple of hours !
Sit a short distance from the station, SETA running, waiting for the Energy slot to show some room.
Have my mid day tuna roll, a cup of tea, No, no change, still full. 5000/5000, Waite !
It dropped to 4999/5000, then immediately went to 5000/5000.
Half an hour with SETA running and the station is still full to the brim.
This is absurd.
Am unable to proceed, yet again.
All my tutor can say is can I help. ( shipyard, Equipment dock ) !
My jigsaw puzzle just got 5000 more blank pieces thrown in the box,
This is so bad it has become funny, .
Looks like I might be playing Forza Horizon 4 this afternoon.
Thats a car racing game on Xbox, it works.

Re: Goner start?
Why dont you forget about the Bofu Station for now and move on with plot? You can always sell it back when you have your won TL. I also did not like it, its still sitting in the Boron space doing nothing but flashing. Will sell it as soon as I get my hands on first TL.
X fanatic. More of an X3 fanatic.
What about X4? Nah, I prefer a space simulator rather than a walking simulator.

Re: Goner start?
Nort, are you flying the freighter personally, or telling it to dock remotely? I could only complete these delivery objectives by personally being inside the Dolphin I used to get the wares.

Re: Goner start?
Next hoop fallen through, just been given permission to dock at the Piranid trading station.
Flying time thus far : 1 -12 : 05
I am so enjoying this tethered game start, and I am still not free of it.
I might might eat that Boron chap if I can catch him.

Re: Goner start?
Oh Grate !
Next part of the step by step mission to get into the game, , , is Kill pirates.
I do not want to kill things, a want to trade, explore, have a nice time flying around.
Thats why i chose the Goner start. !
NOT KILLING THINGS.
When are you game makers going to get the message, killing is not what every one wants to be doing. It’s so old school, Cave man dumb stuff.
Picked up the Triplex scanner from the Equip dock.
Did some flying around, loaded up with 12c energy cells.
So to advance I have to kill pirates in my Goner Ranger. Really !
An other stopping element of the Game !
Is there a way around this shut door ?
If for some unexplained reason a poor pirate is killed, my rep with them will fall.
The rep being all part of the game, they have things I will want over time, so why upset them?
I could understand killing in a simulator as part of the tutorial, but this is what I chose as a peaceful beginning,
The option to be peaceful is not available with this Game start, that ought to have been made clear at the start. Not be thrust upon you this late in the game start up .
It’s supposed to A Goner, peaceful beginning.

Re: Goner start?
*sigh* The "game makers" aren't going to get whatever message you're trying to send. Fight is literally one quarter of the tagline for the X games. If you want to ignore that aspect, that's on you, but don't go blaming the devs for your own decisions.

Re: Goner start?
Well with the main plot you are required to do a bit of killing but not that much in the end. But yes if you want to be all peaceful make a custom start but it was almost always true in all X series as most plots involved some killing at a point or another.
