At the moment I need to kill some Pirates to progress the story. Does anyone know how many I have to kill and how to get some 5MJ Shields ?

Yeah they could have given you a Buster or something for the task. The Advanced Discoverer and Scorpion are rather unsuitable.

As always, don't advance your Fight rank too fast : you'll find yourself overmatched very quickly. Taking out a few pirate M5s or even an M4 or two should be reasonable, esp if you scavenge some missiles..

Does Yaki count? Doing escort missions otherwise there is none. Does Assassination mission count when the targets never gets hostile?
and yeah. M5 doing other M5s is pain because they not even turn on you just evading non stop. The only way i was able to turn them on me when i showed my back to the enemy and got distance around 10k

Yaki & & Pirates are different factions, so No Yaki don't count towards completion

I've certainly completed that objective while doing a station defence mission, so I guess Yes. Another time I also had decent rep with Pirates so they were all blue to me; killing their M5s was slow-going to complete the objective, but at least I didn't lose enough rep with Pirates to turn them all hostile (I wanted some of their tech!)

Maybe my problem lies with my attempt to gain reputation to have cargo life support system. Maybe the trigger is reputation based not kill count. Station deffese gave me some additional agents. Lets hope they can do something if the pirates not welcoming me anymore. :D

I wrote nothing like that.
My post did imply that the path you had chosen is not necessarily the most effective pointing out the pirate base as a source was just an example regardless of your obvious standing to said pirates there could always quicker and easier options.

Also the Plot gifts you a Cargolife Support System long before you would have the need for it, and with need, I talk about the actual need not want.

No I had no. maybe on the revengineered hermes. First factory should be a single resource single product if only 2 ship available. Also you need back n forward b n f b n f to get the required stuff for auto trading for the factory in the current state.... so most effective is where you find it.... suboptimal....

Try visiting the other Paranid sectors. The plot mission spawns other Pirate M5s/M4s/M3s from time to time. :D

Also, some M3s (Don't know if it's a bug or not. Probably not.) don't have a laser in their rear turret, meaning that with your ship you can sneak behind them and brawl them while you evade all their guns (since they have to turn).

Especially with my Kestrel I made quick work of those pesky Pirates, and managed to snatch two Perseuses and a Harrier Vanguard.

I'm pretty much ready to throw the towel on this, I spent about 4 (real-time) hours on this mission so far, and got two pirate kills (the only M5 and M4 I've seen so far).
Spoiler
Show
Both the north and west Paranid sector have only pirate M3s in them that kill all traffic, but don't get killed in return, the southern and eastern Paranid are pirate-free since quite some time, and I have not seen a single kill-mission against pirates. Unfortunately all M3 so far have had guns in their rear turret, my Discoverer fighting skills are not up to the task, and the M4 I managed to buy off some guy is unarmed and unshielded, and neither guns nor shields are available anywhere.

The pirates that I defeated were from factory protection missions. Since they are scaled to your combat rank and are focused on the factory, they're usually easier than the roaming squads with M3s which attack in unison. If you pass back and forth through a gate, several mission usually spawn as you enter the sector. It shouldn't take too long to find a protect-factory mission. I don't recall if there were missiles available for your ship, but they could help too. :)

You know, you can pretty much steal guns and other goods from ships. Theres that tool you get from the plot. Its a fast way to get your hands on some early game weapons. Try it on big, slow capital ships. Much easier and profitsssssss. :)

Unfortunately, access to that tool is only granted after you manage the pirate kills.
I did finally get my 5th kill after another 2.5 hours ... the ~30th combat mission was a defense vs. pirates one.
This was easily the most frustrated I've been in X3 after spending over a hundred hours in each of the X3 iterations, since basically all I could do was SETA fly between sectors, wait for NPCs to kill other NPCs (which they didn't) and check any combat missions if they were defense vs. pirates.
Other missions or trading were pointless, as there were no ships, guns, shields or missiles available to buy. Exploring was also out, as I already explored the ~12 available sectors, and even fighting was counter-productive, as this would have raised my rank, potentially making a defense vs. pirates mission impossible when I finally get one.
Take all that out of X3, what is left?
Spoiler
Show
Maybe the script spawning the pirates could be tweaked a bit, e.g. spawn new M4/M5 even if there are still M3s left? That simple change would defuse the whole problem.
