[TESTREQUEST] Graphical Fix (especially for AMD Drivers)

Post by timon37 »

The latest update, 6.20 Beta 6, includes a fix for graphical issues with recent AMD Drivers. This fix involved some fairly fundamental changes within the graphics engine, so we would appreciate feedback from a range of users to ensure that it's working as intended.
  • Update your game to the latest beta as per the instructions in the pinned topic.
  • If you find any graphical issues that are new to this version, please describe them in as much detail as possible and provide screenshots.
  • If you do not find any graphical issues then just post "No issues found". Feedback of this kind is as useful as reports of errors!
  • Whether you find issues or not, please include your system information by attaching a DxDiag and Vulkaninfo to your reply.
To keep this as efficient as possible please avoid discussions in this thread. Thank you!

Hello all.
After playing most of the night, I've noticed the graphics are much sharper and clearer. :)

I tested the new beta version yesterday morning (GMT time) and had to revert away from the beta back to the release version.

I don't know if what I have encountered was the caused by the changes, but I noticed whenever I moved in control of a spaceship (saw the line drawn from crosshair to mouse pointer to show direction and speed of movement) the UI text became blurred and it made me feel sick. Soon as I reverted back to release version (without the line drawn from crosshair to mouse pointer) the issue was gone.

nVidia 3090 @ 4k resolution. Driver version 531.79 (DCH). Mouse/Keyboard controls.

If you need me too I can try to find time to reinstall the beta and try to get some screenshots of before and after with the blurry UI issue...

Just installed newest beta 6.2 (510529) to get some screenshots of my previous issue... problem seems resolved. So I guess ignore my message for now. :D

Thanks.

Ehm, I believe this topic is just for people with AMD/ATI Radeon type graphics cards and drivers, not NVidia.

No, we want feedback from everyone. The changes fix a problem under the AMD drivers, but they could potentially affect everyone and we want to make sure that we didn't break anything for any hardware. :)

Oh right, in that case :

No issues, over the last two days with 6.20 beta 6 installed (I ran the game for the whole 48 hours).

Issues: occasional random flashing (screen goes white for a fraction of a second once (rare))
My ship got stuck inside the boron warf so bad I had to roll back a save. (Autopilot epicly failed)

Other than that, seems ok.

Is this new to 6.20 Beta 6 or did it happen sometimes before?

no issues (12 hours playing). Using 8k Samsung TV Monitor with RTX4090. good performance and the feeling is better with beta (gut feeling)

[Performance]

Better than final build atm.

Without vsync on, fps is greater than final build.

Beta FPS (50-90+)

Final Build (25-60)

[graphics]

No artifacts.

No glitches.

Sharper picture possibly.

[Opinion]

After fiddling and tweaking with X4 for a while, it feels to me that the engine struggles to handle all the calculations. Like trading, ship coordinates etc. Anything that is constantly on the move. With hard working techies behind cleaning up the code, I'm sure it would go a long way. Making the game feel much more fluid. Assuming there's code to clean up. I'm not a programmer.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Keep typing!

Ran for half an hour and did a variety of stuff. Didn't notice anything egregiously broken.

Kernel 6.4.8
Mesa 23.1.5
AMD RX 6700 XT
Using the Steam runtime.

Hello,

For my part, I am playing on the Beta for 2 weeks now, I got no problem but after the AMD drivers update (02/08) I got a window crash when starting the game that i never had before, the error message was indicating a number (6XX dont remember well the full number but it was an "Error on game start") and another message related to vulkan that could not initialize because no driver found and it opened an error web page with solutions from egosoft, and other games wasn't affected.

After following all the solutions on the website (steam Verify game data integrity, reinstalling the game, reinstalling the nvidia drivers, deleting my config file etc...) nothing was working, the only thing that worked was deleteing the folder on "%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Egosoft\X4" then my saves was reuploaded from cloud and the game worked well after that.

My config is :

Steam,
OS : Windows(R) 10,
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070,
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700K CPU @ 4.20GHz (8 CPUs),
Memory: 16384MB RAM

Not sure if this is a new issue... but posting it here since I just noticed it. Trade boxes collide and stack on top of one another when forced into moving by the property owned menu. See attached jpg.
