[1568][5.0b1] Shader issues - Improved after Nvidia driver update.

Post by Outliver » Sun, 23. Jan 22, 14:11

Everything has a blueish tint now. Also, reflective surfaces (especially visible with glass like the cockpit or the rails on docks) have some brownian noise or whatever, and weird reflections that almost look like clipping.

I'm running the game on a GTX 1080 on a Win10 device. Screenshots here: https://imgur.com/a/OAkF5AV

I would guess that the devs would need your graphics settings/config and a DxDiag upload link before being able to advise you as to what might be going on. The location and sun type etc may be having some effect too. Any 3rd party mods, especially ones that affect sectors and backgrounds?

The screenshots do suggest that your individual game, system and settings may be at the heart of the issue as there would already be hosts of complaints here if that were happening for all 5.00 beta players.

Having exactly same issue with blue tint. Specifically in Grand Exchange sectors. Flying in other sectors with asteroids sometimes creates random brownish artifacts.

Switching from MSAA to SSAA seems to remove the bluish tint and artifacts issue.

Yep also seeing weird shader issues in 5.0 beta, though I haven't seen the blue tint yet I do see a lot of the brown effects.
Depends what system you are in, and what ship cockpit you are looking through.

In Pious Mists IV I can see what is like a reflected edge of a planet, which depending on your attitude in relation to the planet changes shape as it goes by on your screen
https://i.imgur.com/g4S4dXr.png
The edge of the cockpit reflections are also a bit pixellated.

In Pious Mists II (entering from Pious Mists IV), you have a planet in the lower half of your screen
https://i.imgur.com/H7ARQ05.png
If you then steer your cockpit upwards (so the planet goes down and out of view), you then start to see a reflection of what is the edge of the planet which went off screen, this reflection then meets itself as you go further up and highlights the awful looking blotches on the cockpit which look like you took your ship through a very bad car wash
https://i.imgur.com/11EOiwV.png

In Unholy retribution you can get a reflection of the bright star in that sector playing across your screen which also highlights the bad looking cockpit screen blotches
https://i.imgur.com/5IbiMQS.png

Texture setting in all cases above (Low/Medium/High) make no difference.

I have also seen in another sector (I can't recall which sector it was unfortunately) what looked like a planet sized reflection of light brown colour, which covered half of the whole cockpit view if you get the ships attitude right, but did not seem to have any source in the sector (no planet of a similar size to reflect).

Generally I agree something about 5.0 betas in the shading department is new and though it does look like an attempt to enhance immersion with more reflections, generally just makes the badly textured blotches on a cockpit screen look more noticable.

I dont use the higher demand Anti-aliasing options because they make my laptop a bit hotter, so stick to FXAA with most effects off.

Game is vanilla (no mods installed), I had no such issues before the beta. Light does play a role as these effects often disappear when shadow hits the cam. Config and DxDiag here (sry, I got a lot of hardware). Please let me know, when I can remove them again. I'll try switching AA algorithms later today, will report back. Also, please don't read this as "complaint", I know, I'm testing a beta here.

Thats also true for my case.

I would just like to add another thing to look for .. If you are in a Kuraokami, with an NPC as the Captain, then jump past the Captain to his right onto the centre of the console (so you end up being very close to the window of the cockpit). Very often as the ship flies around you will ocassionally see the whole lower half of your view being tinted with a brown sheen.

sry for the late response. But I can now confirm, that switching to FXAA or SSAA does seem to resolve the issue. Though, I wasn't sharp enough at the time to test switching back to see, whether it's actually MSAA causing the problem, or whether the graphics reset itself solved the issue (independent of the chosen AA algorithm). Anyway, hope, that helps.

We've tracked this to be partially caused by the nvidia driver, version 472.98 and older exhibit the issue (though likely some newer versions do as well).
Drivers 497.09 and newer shouldn't have the issue.
So please try updating and then post whether it fixed the issue or not for you.

Will be testing again, just this minute grabbed NVidia v511.65 which has an update also to Vulkan 1.3

Concur. Small issues I noticed are now not so noticable with NVidia 511.65
