[5.0 Beta 3 Linux] CTD when loading 4.2 save
I use the X4 steam edition on Ubuntu Linux.
I use no mods.
When I try to load my savegames of my 4.20 playthrough the game crashes to desktop after the savegame has been loaded.
When it reaches 100% the screen goes black, I hear sound from the game and then it crashes to desktop.
When running steam via terminal, I don't see any interesting output. Only that X4 crashed:
/media/dimitri/SamsungSSD980/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/X4 Foundations/testandlaunch: line 14: 51885 Segmentation fault (core dumped) ./X4 "$@" 2>&1
Link with savegames and steam diagnostic info report: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... sp=sharing
I haven't tried starting a new game yet. I will try that later and will report back results.
System info:
Ubuntu 20.04.3 Linux kernel 5.13.0-25-generic
AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 8-Core Processor
32GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080ti with drivers: NVIDIA 470.86
I use no mods.

Starting a new game works. This does not result in a CTD.

Starting any new game for me also leads to a CTD.
I've tried the Accomplished Scientist and a Creative Gamestart several times. Loads to 100%, then I get a CTD.
OS: Pop!_OS 21.10 x86_64

CPU: Intel i7-9750H (12) @ 4.500GHz

Re: [5.0 Beta 1 Linux] CTD when loading 4.2 save
Does not happen with my game started in 4.2.
X4 is not a destination. It's a journey. Unfortunately in a wrong direction.
Re: [5.0 Beta 1 Linux] CTD when loading 4.2 save
I see I forgot to state what gamestart I used. When starting a new game using the "Terran Cadet" gamestart it works for me.
Re: [5.0 Beta 1 Linux] CTD when loading 4.2 save
Though I was able to load saved game, new games cause crashes, so far tried this scenarios:
Flight School : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1294_mk ... sp=sharing
The Accomplished Scientist : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1fGqVf5 ... sp=sharing
The game renders couple of frames than happens something like this:

Re: [5.0 Beta 1 Linux] CTD when loading 4.2 save
The scenario game did start for me also.
Thanks for the hint!
After jumping to Asteroids Belt the game crashed (accepted "Terran vs Xenon war" mission and was on my way to the meeting).

I will also try these starts tonight and will report back if the game crashes for me with these starts.af_2017 wrote: ↑Sat, 22. Jan 22, 17:43Though I was able to load saved game, new games cause crashes, so far tried this scenarios:

Re: [5.0 Beta 1 Linux] CTD when loading 4.2 save
I should note that jump to Asteroid Belt was not first jump to another sector during the session.
I was able to travel to "Mercury", then back to "Mars" and after that the game crashed in "Asteroid Belts".
In other words I would not say that "Jump to another sector causes 100% crash". Actually it does not.
X4 is not a destination. It's a journey. Unfortunately in a wrong direction.

- Flight School
- The Accomplished Scientist
I did not test other game starts, but I have the feeling all other linux users might experience the same.
It would be interesting if other Linux users could also try these two game starts.

Also Steam Linux User,
Both starts work fine for me, also loading of my 4.2 save there was no problem.

All people who reported CTDs in this thread use a Nvidia videocard. You have no issues and use an AMD video card. I wonder if this is relevant.ZacKPloK wrote: ↑Mon, 24. Jan 22, 23:02Also Steam Linux User,

Re: [5.0 Beta 1 Linux] CTD when loading 4.2 save
The system with AMD video does not look "fresh". Two years old. Not sure how well it is being backported though. Considering Kernel: 5.4.0 not very good I guess.Una base: Ubuntu 20.04 focal
So "outdated" drivers does not look like a reason for the crash.
In my turn I've backported everything officially available for my debian 11, and running the game on 5.15 kernel with nvidia driver 470 still crashes for me the same way.
X4 is not a destination. It's a journey. Unfortunately in a wrong direction.
Re: [5.0 Beta 1 Linux] CTD when loading 4.2 save
Ok, considering that steam deck has AMD video and seems it will have more attention from developers, specifically any issues with it will have highest priority since we've seen the deck on one of latest streams... in this situation seems linux with nvidia will be in a position of unloved child...
These crashes are show stoppers for me. I can't even participate in the beta to check new features and find issues.
Yeah, I know, only two users with nvidia on linux not a priority. I agree with that and don't mind.
I believe that the problems will be fixed eventually among with other problems.
And as a result linux + nvidia guys will get more stable product.
Thanks for testing windows(and linux + amd) guys in advance!

Re: [5.0 Beta 1 Linux] CTD when loading 4.2 save - Possibly resolved by Nvidia driver update.
Spent some more time here trying the scenario with windows version of x4 installed on linux, steam, proton experimental.
Tried flight school only. Crash is still there.
Since normal playing is blocked (entering new sector is a potential crash), I will be back when this fixed.
Thank you!

Re: [5.0 Beta 1 Linux] CTD when loading 4.2 save
5.00 beta2 is released. It shows that more causes for crashes were resolved.
I will check tonight if the CTD issue is resolved when loading a save or starting certain games such as the flight school start.

Re: [5.0 Beta 1 Linux] CTD when loading 4.2 save
Unfortunately the games still crashes to desktop when loading the flight school start.
After the game loaded, you hear the sound playing that new messages are available. I see the initial screen (starting room) for .5 second and then the game crashes.
I will try testing again when the next version of the beta is released.
Can a mod change the title to [5.0 Beta 2 Linux]?

Re: [5.0 Beta 1 Linux] CTD when loading 4.2 save
As helpfully pointed out by af_2017 I think I'm experiencing this same CTD/hang on Windows + Nvidia, so hopefully it's not just Linux-specific and will get fixed for everyone!
