That's exactly what I'm seeing at Wharfs - more specifically "S/M Ship Fabrication Bays" - but only if the ship in question flies in the "wrong" way. Basically, if they go in one direction - which seems to be the default docking alignment - they'll fly in and dock perfectly. However, if they enter from the other direction, they'll often struggle just like in the video, before finally going out the other side, turning around and coming back in to dock just fine.

I've largely abandoned my current game in progress as this was dead annoying. Every time I was on / near my Shipyard, docking of M-Class ships basically became broken.

Scoob.

Thank you guys for the detail reports and steps to reproduce the issues. There was a problem with S and M ships (controlled by NPCs/Autopilot) approaching and docking on enclosed docking bays.
This issue should be fixed on an upcoming release.

Now running v4.00 beta 1, noted the following fix:

"Fixed S/M ships not able to approach and dock properly on enclosed docking bays."

I am pretty sure this topic issue can be closed as fixed now, I tested quite a few enclosed docks which were previously problematic, from a few different directions on each and had no issues :)

Thanks Egosoft, if I find anything else related will make a new bug report.

v4.00 beta 1 did not fix all related issues with docking at S/M Enclosed docks, as noted in the fix list.

I am in Black Hole Sun IV

In the following save, load up and go to the Properties menu
Select "Interlopers Nemesis"
Then right click the Wharf in Second Contact Flashpoint to "Dock At" the Wharf

Have a look at the following Video, this is taken just before the Nemesis tries to dock at the Wharf.

As usual with this issue, you may need to retry a few times.

I think (not 100% certain yet, will take longer to see if every related issue is fixed) that the more recent Beta patches have resolved the problems :)

Happy to close this one, if I come across anything related in future will open another bug report.

Since my last post have been watching out for any more instances.

I am now on X4 v4.10 beta 4, with SV +COH :

S/M Wharfs (the enclosed docks) are still a bit of a problem on aproach to landing, not as bad as they used to be but depending on the angle of aproach your ship can still experience the jiggling aproach, very slowly moving to get into the entrance.

Also noticed the same behaviour on Terran docks inside those ring structures, those can take an age to dock at in the hands of an AI pilot you are onboard with.

It is all better than it used to be, but still leaves a lot to be desired in terms of smooth landings.

Made a video for the devs if you are having trouble repoducing the issue after the previous fix ..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1bQhesRzs4

I have a 5 star pilot just to see if their skill made any difference, still the same problems.
I also used in-game modifications to Chassis and Engine, shown at the start of the video .. Whether they make any difference to a ships aproach under AI control I dont know.

S/M Wharf:
At 00:50 seconds into the vid, taking off from a closed in Wharf is not so bad, sometimes taking off can be a bit iffy
At 01:15 I adjusted the path to give it a bit of an angle on the aproach to the enclosed wharf
At 02:10 The first wobbly jittery aproach to the enclosed S/M Wharf begins

Terran Stations with the ring dock:
At 03:20 I target a few Terran Stations to land at
At 05:40 First dodgy landing takes a while to get lined up on the dock entrance
At 08:00 Taking off - Not too bad a bit jittery, but sometimes taking off can be as bad as landing on these station
At 08:50 A bit of flying through station superstructure before landing, landing not too bad
At 11:10 Landing at the next station, and how to avoid the entrance completely

:) It's not quite as smooth as was advertised :P

If you need any further saves I am now modified (but only a bit of save editing to get 4/5 Star Seminars and test result on pilots, plus paint mods (I am never likely to experience Ventures again) and modification parts like High Energy Catalyst).

No third party mods have been used. And I am experiencing the effects in the video quite often long before I modified the save.

I am no longer running a modified game (went back quite a long way to an unmodified save to work forward again to another issue I am trying to repro clean).

So if further saves etcetera are needed just gimme a poke.

Terran and S/M Wharfs with enclosed docking spaces are still a royal pain in the butt as of 4.10 beta 6.

[Beta 7] Improved docking of non-capital ships.
Not sure if this is meant to address my issues, but I think there is a slight overall improvement.

However still issues with S/M Wharfs and Terran enclosed docks

v4.10 Beta 7 installed.

New Video = https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGWifDzrZa4

Save = https://www.dropbox.com/s/1231rhij2sz7a ... ml.gz?dl=0
No Mods or save editing.

The save is where the video started recording, and takes you on a tour de S/M Wharfs plus a few Terran stations docks.

The ship I am a passenger in has quite a few in-game modifications for speed / mass at good percentages (may be a factor?)

The route produced quite a good variety of the landing at dock issues still being experienced, but I don't hold any hope you will repro the same results, hence the video.

Anyway points to note :

Load save and just enjoy the ride - But the whole string of pre-ordered dockings will take over an hour to witness in person.

Video timeline to skip and view relevant points quicker as follows ..

1 Min - wobbly approach

6 Min - bad through wall take-off also bouncing off station

11 Min - bouncing off structure plus wobbly approach, exits other side of wharf then comes back in to land

15 Min 45 sec - Approaching, then ship is teleported back outside (seeing this occasionally, hard to repro) followed by wobbly approach

18 Min - Not on topic but please point this at someone .. Strange approach to gate, I am seeing this a lot aswell as Accelerators tend to be a bit of a bouncing round the structure of the thing, many occurrences of the same in this video

20 Min 30 sec - Flying through structure on approach

23 Min 50 sec - Scraping around dock entrance, plus bad take off bouncing off of station structures

26 Min 45 sec - Another strange gate approach

29 Min - Strange approach to landing

32 Min - Wobbly approach

39 Min - Not too bad apart from flying through station module

43 Min 15 sec - Bit of rolling around on approach

46 Min - Terran station wobbly approach but good take off

54 Min 10 sec - Bad approach to accelerator

58 Min 40 sec - Bad approach to Terran station, eventually the ship just goes through the station structure to get inside and land

1 Hour 2 Min - Again passing through Terran station structure

1 Hour 4 Min - Not too bad approach, but then goes towards exit again, and then turns back in to land on Terran station
