How to detect the riptide when outside of RIP space

Post by VincentTH »

I keep losing my ships during the riptide event, when outside of Avarice. Is there a way I can get the announcement when outside of Avarice?

Get a scout, give it a Fly to and Wait default order to Tidebreak.

Now if it has a Flee order and is docked in the overview, the Tide is coming or is currently firing. If it's undocked then there's no immediate Tide coming.

Well, my question to the devs is that I wish to receive the announcement of a coming Tide when I am outside of Avarice. I can see the Flee order fine, but that does not help me if 10 Xenons are chasing me in Argon Prime!!!! :-)

If 10 Xenon are chasing you in Argon Prime then why do you care what's happening in Avarice? It's not the next jump. I also don't want to be receiving audio announcements when I'm sitting in an invasion fleet in Split space about something happening in Avarice :P

You asked how to detect the Tide from outside of RIP space. A solution has been provided. You can see that Flee order on that ship in any sector, any time you like.

Now there is an idea...

Would a scout with a fly to command next to the Jump Gate inside Avarice reliably flee to Windfall when the Tide is comming? If this the case then you could create an alert whenever that scout ID is spotted in Windfall.

Yes, they do actually. Well, you would have to set the Fly and Wait position to very close to the gate, so they don't pick Tidebreak as the closest escape and go there. I actually had mine set up like that before, but I changed it to go into Tidebreak when VIG got very angry with me for ... reasons.

Use the chassis mod protecting your ships from taking any hazard damage. Works on both the Void and Avaraice and that xenon sector I just forgot the name of

Place an advanced satellites in front of jump gate to Avarice. If you see that there are a lot of ships are standing close to the gate, without going into - Tide is coming.

I'm wondering more why do ships not just dock at close by stations and instead fly all the way to Windfall. Lost some ships that way.

What would you do if the station responds with "docking queued"? Try the next one...?

I would wonder why I'm playing X3.
This literally never happens with how quickly stations throw ships into storage and considering each station has like 50+ internal storage space.
