Research: engine mod-race

Hey all,

I don't get it...

In a ship w/ 3200 m/s I was 15 seconds short of finishing the race for the research components.
So I got the geometric owl, and it goes 6000 m/s. I still failed the race by 15 seconds.. WTHeck is going on here?

Acceleration matters.
Are you actually hitting the top speed through most of the race?
Regardless, you could always do the chassis research first and get either mass or drag, one of those boosts your speed too.

Hit (and hold) Boost while the travel engine is charging.
And disable flight-assist while aiming for the finish line after passing through the gate. Then enable flight-assist when aligned correctly.
That way, you can make it.
