I *think* some scenery is prepared as soon as a mission appears, even if you don't accept it. So the empty minefields are remnants of "rescue me" missions minus the trapped ship. The patch note for 1.5 say that they fixed something about that.
Nope, they are not. I did like 5 missions so far, not more and one was a mine mission and i finished it. Never abandoned a mission in X4 so far.
I was WAY too absorbed with them bloody cretins of universal traders to care for missions! Sodding imbeciles, the lot of them!
Did you read my post? I am assuming that the " as soon as a mission appears, even if you don't accept it".

I was NOT talking about abandoned missions.

Oh ... my bad. But with that amount of mine missions, shouldn't then there be hundreds, if not thousands, of those mine clusters?

Hello, on my case there were no 'M-Cerberus Sentinel" in Black Hole Sun IV.
But instead i have found a "Gorgon Vanguard" in Sacred Relic when arriving at the location for a story quest:

The quest where you escort the cargo that is supposed to get the Boron out of the station.
And I'm totally sure it wasn't here the first time I came here.

Since AI-controlled ships seemingly ignore environment issues (mines/damaging conditions), wouldn't it be easier to get the Odysseus Vanguard (after claiming) out by leaving the system in your "scout", and then order the pilot/ship to fly out on it's own? Just a thought =)

The Odysseus would be attacked by fighters too. What I did was to drop a few Lasertowers at each gate, and plot a course for the Ody well below the median plane with nav beacon, and then issue the follow-me command

I managed to find not just 1 but 2 Sunder Sentinel in Antigone Memorial, however the 2nd was inside a minefield with both visible and non visible mines

Found 2 different Herons in Trinity with 1.5 beta 3 (just before the full release I guess). They were both surrounded by mines and fully abandoned with the signal beacon and everything. From what I can tell they have systematized much of this so that these are random chance events with some hidden parameters nobody has sussed out yet. Very cool.

Interesting - I didn't personally escort the freighter myself - I was cheky and send Osprey to do the job, when I was doing something else on the other side of galaxy.
Therefore it seem these ships didn't spawned for me.

So yeah it's probable that this is this mission that trigger the spawn of some abandoned M6, M7 ships, interesting ... Make me want to restart the game to check it out :D

FWIW, I restarted for 1.5Release using the same game start as previously (from 1.2 I think) Explorer.

Most of the Derelict ships I found in the previous run are not there, and I found new ones not present in the previous run.

Let's hope that the Destroyer is still in its place as in previous run.

Found the Faulty Logic Odysseus.

Games started in 1.34 (Explorer) and ship found in 1.50.

As noted, when you're out of the sector, the Captain of the ship won't hit any mines. The gate in the original system was unguarded for me, but the ship got into trouble at the gate back to HOP space and was attacked by a tonne of Xenon while it failed to navigate into the gate properly. Teleported over, faced the gate and boosted, easy fix.

Just to confirm, looks like Faulty Logic VII Odysseus is a fixed spawn. I trashed the shield and weapons by using a boarding pod, couldn't find the access hatch data leak for spacesuit boarding and too many Xenon sniffing around....
Anyway, it auto-flew out of there no problem, took control of it through teleport when it reached Faulty One and fast traveled it to friendly space.

Just found 3 Peregrines and one Osprey in addition to the Osprey I found earlier in the game when I joined a Teladi Guild. Two were around 30km north of the gate from Trinity Sanctum to Bright Promise, the others were around the superhighway gates at either end of Bright Promise itself. All were easily noticed from the superhighways on the way past. :D

For those who want to find several abandoned ships - I've found and claimed more than 10 medium sized ships in a few hours, 3 Ospreys, 2 Minotaurs, 3 Peregrines, 2 Cerberii, and 2 freighters. Just spend a little time increasing your rep and receiving multiple faction ranks and joining guilds. I literally flew the main circular super highway keeping an eye on the ship list and looking for factionless ship tags. It makes it even easier and more lucrative if you have your autotraders and miners doing their thing in several sectors, as they are randomly scoping out some of the fogged sector areas while they mine or trade. Even if the spawns are random, they are generally detectable from the highway or jump gates, except for the Odysseus of course. My faction standing is at 21 with Argon fed, 18 with Tel Co, Godrealm and Antigone, and 5 or 6 with the other friendlies, through trade and Xenon gate camping.

The thing is, these ships keep popping up all over the place. Perhaps they are spawns for faction/guild missions the player has been offered, and a bug causes them to spawn before the mission is accepted. But hey, who cares? If you follow my advice here, you will find plenty. Now, if only finding Captains for them all was as easy .....

it appears that direlicts spawn in random, i got so many of them i just stopped claiming them.
bit of advice dont use marine to claim it, use spacesuit, this way it will keep all equipment
