Mod looks great but unfortunately when running x4 with the mod enabled the game will not launch, it just sits there but the x4.exe process is running, if i remove the mod it launches fine. Have several other mods installed without issue.
Have tried a fresh install with no mods and removed all savegames and config files without success. Have very few apps installed and no issue with any other games or mods. Drivers are up-to-date and am running win7 x64.
Just curious if anyone else is having the same issue or maybe it's just me, it's a weird one that's for sure. Will troubleshoot further and see how i go.

That's strange. When I had errors in the xml the engine simply skipped the file. And the release has a diff patch, which should avoid any conflict. Are you using other mods that deal with the backgrounds?

Hey Realspace, thanks for the quick reply.
Was initially just running gemfx, x4 fire and smoke and paintjobs galore. Thought there may have been a conflict there so i removed all mods along with the x4 folder in my documents and installed the game from scratch with nothing else running other than the collectors edition steam version which works fine on it's own, the moment i launch with the mod it just sits there and does nothing but the x4.exe process is running as per task manager.
Have checked anitvirus ect. without success and have very few other apps running. From what i can see it's working fine for others so it appears to be something on my end. I'll keep digging and see how i go.

Ok I think I know the issue, it's the VGA going out of memory. The game uses a single big texture for all stars and nebulae, so in order to have a decent quality for the nebulae I had to double the size. The texture is very big, that is the only one. It is at the limit of my RX580 4gb too but it is ok. Problem is the game seems to read only DTX5 dds, what bring a loss of quality visible in the nebulae. If I export the file as uncompressed, as I did with X3 that reads them perfectly, the engine simply avoids it. That would help, having a smaller texture but uncompressed. Updated version (1.2)
Reverted all gas giants in Split sectors to vanilla, to avoid issues with some highres textures
Removed the flickering from a couple of moons
Background stars entirely redone, more visible but less intrusive ("it's full of stars!")
Reduced the size of the texture containing nebulae/stars for a better compatibility with all graphic cards
Updated version (1.2.1)
Reduced the size of the foreground stars
Both versions are available, if you prefer bigger stars download v.1.2 instead
Reverted all gas giants in Split sectors to vanilla, to avoid issues with some highres textures

Could you upload your very first version of this mod? I find it better, but accidentally deleted the mod from PC completely and can't find it on Nexus anymore

I've uploaded 3 different versions. All corrected, variation is only in the background stars. You can chose version (1.2), (1.2.1), (1.2.2), they are all updated
1.2.2 brings back the first version of the background stars, more visible and "intrusive"
So now you have 3 version to chose:
1.2.1 (my fav.) is the one with the less intrusive stars, background and foreground
1.2 has less intrusive background stars as 1.2.1 but bigger foreground stars
1.2.2 is the all bigger and more visible
Reshade settings ini is in a separate download, same for any mod's version you choose
As for now I stop. This had to be a quick fix for some ugliness that spoiled the immersion in an otherwise beautiful game. I think the mission is accomplished and, hope, error-free

I took a look at DeadAirGate mod, it uses vanilla assets, so the same backgrounds and planets. Tried running and visited many sectors, they all use my graphics so enjoyshovelmonkey wrote: ↑Fri, 22. That was my aim btw, to make it universal. It can be used with any mod that does not change vanilla backgrounds and planets, DAG uses the same assets only in different locations.

Still not. I've just finished and uploaded after days of working on it. Consider it a more polite, better calibrated, error-free version. There are many little improvements, many. I also reimported all the textures with mipmaps to avoid flickering, modified many moons into higher resolution problem-free. Give it a try, it does not change the game

There is a stupid error in the content.xml, I wrote version 2.0 in the xml's version too. Change it to 1.0, it will work. Uploading the corrected file

Just want to leave a message to say thank you for such an awesome mod. I especially like the new looks of the planets/moons...the ones in the base game seem to have lower resolution vs the ones from this mod. Just curious...will you be updating the mod after the release of the new DLC? There will be a new terraforming feature in the game that may or may not affect your mod.

Hi, I just wanted to ask, if this mod is compatible to the 4.0 version with Terraforming.
You changed some planet textures and now I am unsure if it will work with terraforming the planets?

in the new sectors added by other mods. not sure which one it is yet, either The Ancients Mod, Qang Qbeng, DeadAir Gate or ROR. There is no skybox, everything else is there, only can tell iam moving visually by the space dust flying past. kinda erie.
any suggestions you or others might have would be appreciated.

In the past that has happened because the game can't find the skybox files. IIRC in particular, the mod files have to be in the program directory, not in Documents.SolusVagus4544 wrote: ↑Mon, 1.
