Is it possible to replace assets (combat music) without a modified tag (e.g., can X4 use its files in extracted form)?

I love all X4 music except combat music, which feels like the same 20 seconds repeated infinitely. I don’t want my game “modified”. Please help! Is there a way to replace just the combat track?
I was thinking perhaps the game can use extracted assets like Skyrim, with a single “unsigned” file like a music track replaced. Any ideas? Thanks!

It is now possible to change music to some extent without modified tag: https://www.egosoft.com:8444/confluence ... =106889877

The combat music is indeed the worst aspect of music in not just X4, but the X series in general.

Check out beta version 5.00, there is new combat tunes and a more dynamic change between phases.

I just turn off music in-game and use Steam's built-in music player. It already has an X-4 playlist I made. No interruption, no lag from modding-in music, no worries either way about modified tag.

Are you able to switch between two playlists using shortcuts?
The benefit of using the in game system is the music change dynamically depending if there is combat or not.
The new system, I think, will bring more variation base on the fight situation.

No I just don't use x4's combat music at all, before this I had a mod that disabled combat music interrupting/overriding the other music.
