Hangs/lost-device errors when changing sectors in 5.0 (nvidia)

I'm encountering a 100% repeatable crash/hang upon transitioning to a new sector in 5.00. It happens with any sector both when aboard a ship that goes through a gate and when teleporting. In both cases the sector transition occurs I see the new sector/ship fades in, the announcer speaks, and then the game locks/crashes. I'm not sure how long this has been happening as I just picked up X4 again to try 5.00 after ~6mo. I haven't seen this particular issue on the forums but most device loss posts mentioned GPU power issues; in my case here I can spend hours in game so long as I don't teleport (I only noticed this issue after playing 4 hours without leaving my station), or boot my machine cold and crash immediately on teleport after loading.

This doesn't seem to happen in the current CoH release but does in the same save on 5.00.

With the new 5.00 b2 update today I gave it another go and this time I was once able to get an X4 error:

I'm guessing a minidump went somewhere as a drdump window popped up afterward. I captured a minidump and can send it along if useful.

In most attempts instead of an immediate crash or error the game remains hung - I checked it out in Process Explorer; it has two threads at 100% sitting in these two loops every time it hangs:

I just tried beta 3 - out of ~5 tries I was able to teleport to a ship in another sector without hanging once, with all others hanging after the sector name was announced as before ;(

Just want to add, I'm getting this also. It happens when me/player transitions to another system. System loads and immediately crashes.
