Intervention Corps Carriers Need to Launch Fighters!

Post by LameFox » Fri, 26. Nov 21, 02:17

I have been seeing this a lot with Intervention carriers: they will go and seek out combat, with all their fighters on board, and just... die, pointlessly, without launching any. Doesn't matter if they initiate the combat or something attacks them, apparently. It's like there's no condition to make them deploy the fighters at all.

Here is an example in action:

saved before the fight
saved during fight, soon to die
both vanilla, 4.10

As I watched this, the Tokyo in question launched... a Defence Drone!! :o It managed to get off a whole two of these drones before it died. All those fighters sitting there and it does this? What's going on here?

Moved to technical support.

I recall seeing TER Tokyo carriers doing this as well, while playing 4.20 b2. However I cannot be sure that the carrier and subordinates were not built in 4.10.

I was not sure if it was a bug, or merely oversight in their behaviour. It may even be common to carriers in general but I less often see others engage in combat.

The Tokyo is a highly durable carrier. I would consider it a bug that that something can deal enough damage to it to kill it and it does not even launch its fighters in response. They might be set to remain docked and correctly do so, but they should not be set to remain docked for long when their host carrier is under such heavy damage.

This is happening to me right now with my Tokyo

Inner space for the small landing pads is too slow, traffic has no organized flow to it. Fighters keep messing around and kinda just quivering there. Eventually one or two will land. Repeat
With 1 Medium sized landing pad, the M-sized ships have difficulty as well due to long queue times. Strange because I don't really see this issue on the Raptor (which also has only one M-sized landing pad)

Tokyo keeps getting stuck on "recall subordinates"
-This has more to do with Tokyo waiting for reinforcements to arrive, despite said reinforcements being a handful of S/M sized ships every now and then to replace numbers. Ships need to travel a couple sectors over, and even though the Tokyo is leader of a group of roughly 200, it will still wait for 10+ minutes just so that 5 or 6 can catch up. It is also an issue that affects any Fleet Lead with sufficient numbers.

Tokyo right now is useless, dead in the water. Won't go anywhere without my personal input. Waste of time.

update:
It has been almost 10 minutes, and the Tokyo has gone from 30-ish ships stored, to 90-ish. Waste of time.

That sounds like a different issue. With these AI controlled ships, I am not even seeing attempts to launch (other than drones, which did launch successfully). The ship is attacking, and being attacked, but neither apparently triggers it to deploy its large complement of fighters—and so it just dies with all of them aboard.

Haha yeah its true its untouchable by anything else than big energy guns.
BUT, if it travels like this on its expeditions, its kinda pointless... https://drive.google.com/file/d/1WxsLq0 ... sp=sharing

I found it clouded in little Xenon bees, like a lot of them, maybe 60... Took a while for my own fighter squadrons to clear the air.
Then... i decided to replace the leadership of this fabulous vessel... with my own. :D
To my surprise it was stacked with goodies. Like seriously. it had a crew of 46 souls, and was loaded with 35 fighters... unmanned... How, in my right mind, would i not cap it? :gruebel:

No but really serious now, that seems to be how expeditions go right now (4.1-4.2). I got an Asgard, like really early in the game, two Raptors and now a Tokyo. And if you cap them without damaging modules you dont even get the slightest relationship pen... After being clouded by diligent Xenon bees you dont need to worry so much about modules anyways, prep is done very well so to say...
You just drive along, let your plumbers say hello, and after a few knocks on the door the deal is settled alright.

The fighters were likely manned. Just set to remain docked or failing to launch for some reason (not launching).

Since one of the patches, you now take control of all docked ships after a boarding operation completes. In the process all their crew is purged.

Ok that makes some sense, partly. Like guessing from my own experience with the AI, fighters will only stay docked in a critical situation if they are not assigned to the carrier. Or maybe they would even take off if they are not assigned, not too sure about that. There is no command that would allow fighters to stand down if the motherships is in a critical combat situation. But what is "critical" anyways? Having the modules wiped from the hull certainly not. It needs some hull damage, and in my cases the main shields were not even challanged when i arrived to these ships. But in the process of capping, i did enough hull damage, below 50%, to speed up the "door knocking".
Any time you cap a SCA vessel they start throwing at you what they have as soon as you start to make hull damage. And my own carriers launch anything they have too, if their hull is in a bad shape and there is incoming fire. It seems to be some basic AI behavior. That leads to the suspicion that the fighters of the capped Tokyos (yeah meanwhile got a second with the same fighter loadout) were indeed unmanned, or their defaul response to attacks is set to "ignore".
But i doubt about the latter, because as far is i can see it AI ships use only the "global" setting.

On the other Hand, i am currently enjoying the company of a functioning Asgard battle group in the Xenon sector i have a forward defensive position with my own fleet. They arrived in a sizable group, an Osaka and a good number of M/S ships as escort. The small stuff isnt anymore, but i sincerly enjoy watching the Asgard and the Osaka taking on the Xenon Stations. So i can focus my attention elsewhere. I think i will let them be since they proved to be usefull. :D

Just wanted to mention that this does persist now that I'm in the beta, and also that it's seemingly not only Intervention. TER patrol Tokyos can be spotted doing it too sometimes.
