RTX 3060 crashes - Possible system RAM clockspeed issue.

Post by Mr.Killer » Mon, 22. Nov 21, 13:57

Since march this year I left your game X4, because of reasons, personal, anger issues about things that I could not agree to at that time, but as time progresses and now that I just bought a brand new pc with I7, 32 gig memory and a RTX3060, the game keeps crashing.
I had three times uninstalled and reinstalled the Nvidia drivers....
Even with the graphics settings to low and no other options on.
Can you tell what this is, obviously a driver issue, but what can I do to use the game at its full capacity....

Welcome back. Can you start by providing a DXDiag and vulkaninfo, and maybe a crashdump file, so that we can get some clues as to what's happening?

these are the two diagnostics, need to search for crashdump, as I did not specificly saw this happening (the making of the crashdump)
found it....

That specific crashdump file suggests it could be a game crash rather than a driver crash. Is this something that happens with a particular savegame? If so, could you upload your savegame, and tell us how to reproduce the crash from there? Can you also confirm that your game is unmodified?

Here's the savegame from march this year, where I wanted to pick up the game
https://1drv.ms/u/s!Avwp7mxyyIGgpmdp59o ... w?e=N9NJLu
As far as I can tell, the game is unmodified.... (testing it now)

Apart from this savegame, I shall restart a new game and see how long this lasts....
As of now, today, I uninstalled all nvidia drivers and with that I am testing wether this works or not.

If anything happens, I'll report it here...

Yep, the savegame I provided is unmodified, yet I started a new game -the young gun- and I was able to get to one adjoined system, landed there and was on my way when the screen just disappeared, I stood in windows again....
So, it crashed.... like flipping a switch.
Anywhere that you know if there is a crashdump file written?
(for me: around 23-11-2021 15:40)

Crashdumps are written into the Steam main X4 game folder where X4.exe is and have a version and date/time specific title: Drive:\Steam\steamapps\common\X4 Foundations\ something similar to: X4_410_2021_11_15_12_40_03.dmp ie: X4 version 4.10 crash on 15 Nov 2021 at 12:40:03

I thought that you had already successfully found one above though.

I had the dump file from yesterday, but now (thanks for where to look, it was in the steam library) I found one about that timestamp I told before...
https://1drv.ms/u/s!Avwp7mxyyIGgpnDT31j ... q?e=0fW16T
(15:43)
So, maybe this tells some more...
FYI, I also had Heaven benchmark and just now Performance test https://www.passmark.com/baselines/V10/ ... 544934.png done, and they all ran through it with flying colors...

Is this from a new game, now, or from your savegame? If it's a new game then something is odd, and you should probably check carefully that there are no bits of leftover mods, and run a full file verification using the Steam client to make sure the game files aren't corrupted.

This last savegame is from a new game. Since this is a brand new game and have not used mods on X4, and as far as I can tell the files were correct installed...
I suspect the drivers, because more 3d games crash for no reason..... TABS, Universe Sandbox.....

Update on this: Had contact with NVIDIA, gonna test some more... If problem persists, I'm gonna respond to them.
@CBJ thanks so far for your help, I hope I don't need it after this....

I had a rather short email conversation with the webshop who built my pc, and I told them everything that transpired in between. The thing they came up with was the speed of the memory, the onboard memory !!!!
They suggested to lower the speed from 3200 to 2666 and after that the pc stayed stable throughout this day.

So, is this a known issue at EGOSOFT and other 3-d game builders? because they told that not all games could not handle this speed (yet)!

I hope I did not make you people worry, it is as far as I can tell now solved, and if in a recurring event I shall first tend to the webshop...

Thanks for thinking along with me :)
