You can set alerts. For example, to tell when foe XL ship shows in sector Y. Alerts are stored in log.

The logged alert even has a button that focuses the map to the ship that did trigger the alert. The button is removed, if that ship dies.

A button that focuses the map to the ship, no matter how long after the alert and where the ship is now.
I can't see the ship when it is in unexplored space, but I can see what escorts it has.

It is understandable that if I've registered your ID, then I will know you when you are within my scanners.
However, I should not be able to track you in deep space, should I?

Come on... any alert creates a public profile on a social network for that ship, so it is full of tracking devices, guaranteed

I suspect this should probably be in technical support or public beta sections as it does sound like a bug/exploit.

Save has "Terran XL in AB" alert that fired 9h 2m ago. It offers to show TER Patrol Carrier Tokyo.
Click focuses map on PIO sector. No ship is shown, since no player scanners in area, but the Tokyo is revealed to have 1M and 6S escorts.

Moved to technical support. Topic creator is reporting a potential exploit where the custom ship alert logs can be used to obtain some current information about a ship through the fog of war.
