PC Crashes Split Vendetta
So i haven't found this Problem jet so i hope it can be fixed...
Here is the setting:
I played X4: Foundations Version 4.00 in german for some time.
I play the normal game start "Der junge Aufsteiger" (german).
I do use mods but the crash still happens in vanilla with completly new save games so mods aren't the problem.
What happens is i installed Split Vendetta and since then every time i move into the sector "Heretic's End" (since i want to go to split space) my whole pc crashes and restarts.
I deleted all mods. I reinstalled the game. I delted all save files (maybe corrupted because mods) and tried a new save game. Still my pc crashes.
Though i do found out that without the mods my pc doesn't imidiatly crashes on sectore entrance. Sometimes (without mods) i can fly, fight or just move around the sectore for 1-3 minutes until my pc crashes... Until now i never made it to split space. Allways crashes in "Heretic's End".
I do have the "DxDiag.txt" and the "vulkaninfo.txt" but i don't know how to attach it here so any explanations may come in handy.
Any suggetions are helpfull!
EDIT:
So apperantly my game is allways crashing when entering Heretic's End.
I just reinstalled the game, no mods no nothing (no DLC's!) and my game still crashes...

Re: PC Crashes Split Vendetta
If your "whole PC" crashes than that's a system issue rather than the game itself, so yes, those DXDiag and vulkaninfo files will be very important.
Instructions on attaching files are in the "Please read this before posting!" sticky thread at the top of the forum.

Re: PC Crashes Split Vendetta
I have the same issue, but with Asteroid Belt. I play purely vanilla, with all DLC's.
I personally assume it has to do with my laptop overheating and shutting down. But that's just an assumption, as X4 is the only game that crashes that way consistently. Other games don't do that, unless those were really buggy, badly optimisied indie games. And I did play a bunch of graphically demanding things.
However, I managed to play around that by avoiding Asteroid belt, or only visiting it when I just started the game. It may be possible that you have an issue like that too. So one sector who just makes your system nope out. Which is funny, considering my laptop handles sectors like Getsu Fune pretty well.

Ok so here are the Links to the data:
dxdiag: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1IgI4gE ... sp=sharing
vulkaninfo: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1tZUICm ... sp=sharing
So i had a compareable problem at some games... it seems like (don't know for sure) my gpu can pull more power than my powersupply can deliver.
I was allways able to work around that by limiting the fps to 60 aka use vsync.
But i visited Heretic's End multiple times befor installing the dlc's and since then i didn't change anything on my setup.. so i can hardly belive that this meight be the problem...
I hope someone has some sollutions.

Re: PC Crashes Split Vendetta
Symptoms such as "whole pc crashes and restarts" are signs of hardware instability. This could be anything from an unstable overclock (or even unstable at stock) to faulty or insufficient power delivery. X4 cannot directly cause such crashes since it is a user level application, and can only cause them indirectly by using hardware in a way that it is designed to handle but for some reason cannot.
If you encounter these issues then if any part of your system is overclocked revert it to stock. This includes factory overclocks and default BIOS/UEFI settings which borderline overclocking. Use a tool like hardware info to verify that your CPU and GPU are behaving as expected, including boosting behaviour, maximum boost frequency and package power usage. Zen 3 based AMD processors may boost above their "maximum" frequency, but this is stock behaviour that cannot be disabled and is working as intended, for that series they mean more like minimum assured boost frequency with actual maximum boost frequency being based on binning and usually significantly higher under some workloads. Memory should also be at CPU ratted speeds, even if the DIMM's XMP profile is higher.
If the issue is caused by power delivery then some work arounds are to limit how much power the game can make the system use. This includes using frame rate limits to reduce GPU workload and limiting CPU boosting frequency to reduce CPU package power. A more permanent solution may involve replacing the power supply, possibly with a higher quality or higher ratted unit, assuming the issue is not caused by voltage regulators on the motherboard or GPU. For laptops you can try altering your power settings to limit CPU and GPU performance, similar to when the laptop is running on battery, which will both lower power usage and should reduce CPU/GPU thermals.
It could be related to thermals, especially voltage regulator module (VRM) thermals which might not be reported to the OS. However usually CPUs and GPUs will automatically throttle their own power usage when their temperature is too high (thermal throttle) to avoid instability resulting in significantly reduced in-game performance if this is happening.
Of course I recommend to make sure your BIOS/UEFI, graphic drivers, chipset and even graphic card firmware is up-to-date as those can solve instability issues. BIOS/UEFI often contains CPU control logic so can affect the stability of CPUs. Graphic card drivers can improve how they manage a card to avoid extreme situations that can cause them or the system to become unstable. Chipset drivers are less likely to cause this sort of crash but they do manage system power to some extent so could be a factor. Some GPU vendors overclock their GPUs using firmware which might be unstable under some situations, in these cases they usually release a firmware update for the GPU which improves stability.
A hacky solution might be to use overclocking tools to lower the power and current limits of GPU and CPU to be more appropriate for your power supply. This will likely void warrantees, despite technically straining the hardware less than stock. This will be a lot more reliable than using game or driver options to try and limit how hard the GPU or CPU is loaded.

You need at least a reputable 600 W power supply for your GPU. If your power supply is not from a reputable brand or manufacturer or is under 600 W then the only true solution might be to change the power supply for a better or more appropriately ratted one. If you want to upgrade GPU in the future I would recommend a 700 or 800 W power supply as GPUs are becoming increasingly power hungry and can generate huge current spikes that can even trip protections on power supplies that are considered appropriate.

Re: PC Crashes Split Vendetta
I updated my GPU drivers manually, since none of the Windows tools (windows update and the device manager) did that on their own apparently. Even after specifically checking it out manually. So I had to use a search engine for that again....
As for overclocking:
I didn't overclock anything, and didn't change hardware. But that doesN't mean that there isn't a hardware issue of course.
Now with the updated driver, I just keep an eye out. If it continues, or gets worse, I'll check if something is wrong on my hardware.

Re: PC Crashes Split Vendetta
I allways have ab eye on my drivers so those are up to date.
Thermal problems can't happen since i once had major thremal problems and did everything to cool it down.
But... i just checked the power supply... be quiet! 450W...
I thing this meight be the problem
As i said since now i allways found a workaround but sadly this time i have to invest in a new power supply...
I just wonder why it didn't happend earlyier befor i installed split vendetta... and only in heretics end...
