Split plot bug during slave trader 2 mission

I'm trying to figure out how to get the achievement for working with the police. During this mission, afterwards there is a message in the logbook about the zyarth police force giving you a chance to disengage. Even if I literally travel mode the second I get into the ship and undock, I get the message in the logbook that I did not disengage in time. I'm assuming this is ending or seriously disrupting the zyarth police line; my first playthrough of the quests, I don't recall any other opportunity to work with them after unknowingly failing this part.

Is there any way to do this differently? Is it bugged?

Is this a bug? If not, can we get some direction about how to make sure the "working with the police" part of the quests is progressing properly?
