Yep, just quadruple checked, the config file is definitely read/write accessible (no ticks)

Thanks for this Lonesome. I'm going to request refund from Steam and buy from GoG, then install on C: drive where my windows/user profile is installed. Will report back in a few hours, once game has re-downloaded.Alonesome wrote: ↑Sat, 1. Dec 18, 13:22 It works!!!
I have one SSD splitted into two partitions C:\ (System) and E:\ (Data). Drive D:\ is my DVD ROM-Drive.
My user data is on E:\; the Config.xml was created correctly (even as the game was crahsing). I've dinstalled X4, created a new game library on C:\ and re-installed X4. Now it's starting, I can create a new game and save. Also quitting and starting it again works.
@Egosoft: You really messed up something here. File access shoulöd work regardless where you install the game in![]()

You don't need to refund it. Just choose a new game library when you install it; you can create multiple different libraries on different folders in Steam. This is also what I did.zarrazee wrote: ↑Sat, 1. Dec 18, 13:26Thanks for this Lonesome. Re: 1.0 HF1 CTD Can't launch game at all (Steam)
Too late I'm afraid. I've already got my refund and installed on GOG. However, I've never used GOG galaxy before. After installing X4, I could not install the hotfix as I got the message "Installation Failed: Disk Access Problem". Lol. Checked Firewall and File Shield settings, disabled AVG etc, then after another 30 mins of internet troubleshooting, I think I know the solution. I need to install GOG Galaxy from the set-up.exe rather than choosing "Download (GOG Galaxy) and install now" from my personal GOG games profile page. If this is the case, this is an oversight from GOG, as you don't get to choose the install path for GOG Galaxy via the route I used.
So, I've uninstalled C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy, downloaded & ran setup_galaxy_1.2.49.26 and installed in folder C:\GOG Galaxy. I'm now downloading and installing X4 for 3rd time in 24 hours!
Glad I've got a sense of humour about all this, otherwise I'd have got pretty cross and rage quit!
I'll report back in a few hours....

Dear Support
Please mark this thread as "solved".
Installing via GOG and/or installing X4 in the same drive as the user profile config file seemed to fix the issue for me. Only played the game for 10 mins so far, but looks great and smooth as silk.
Thanks for your feedback and help all
