Hotas throttle question.

Post by Stabby Dave » Sat, 17. Sep 22, 11:24

Hi.

Got an X52 pro, and no matter what I try, I cant get the throttle to be incremental. It acts as a switch - it's either set to max or zero.

Does anyone know whether it's possible to have it variable (like in E:D)?

Cheers.

Definitely possible, that's exactly how my Thrustmaster throttle works.

Suggest first step should be to make sure that the throttle's setup correctly in settings/controls/general. In particular check that the throttle's axis (or slider) is configured in the steering:analogue section, rather than assigned to anything in steering:digital which could produce the sort of behaviour you're seeing.

Here's how I have it set up:

X52 Pro HOTAS
Joystick curves
X52 Software running (no profile, but it gets the pinkie key assignable)
Bi-directional throttle - on (otherwise "off" sets speed to roughly half when throttle set to 0)
Gamepad mode - off
adaptive - off
Throttle - Z access
Controller/Joystick

X52 HOTAS
VJoy Virtual Joystick
VJoy virtual Joystick

Is that wrong?

Cheers

As "GCU Grey Area" has correctly explained, your axes seem to be occupied at Digital.

Go to Settings->Control->General.

The axes must be configured at the top under Analogue.

[EDIT]

you need to have a profile loaded in the saitek x52 pc app. just google there are plenty to choose from. Or make your own profile ...
in the x4 game settings make sure bi directional is off and also gamepad and adaptive steering

I did use X52 (not Pro). I did not use the "x52 pc app" at all until I wanted to change the joy6, the pinky button, between modifier and plain button.

There were no problems getting throttle to function. In fact, I still use the throttle (without the joystick, and no "pc app"). How does X52 Pro differ from original X52?

Search me. All I know is that the x52 and the pro aren't compatible.

I've tried it with a loaded (blank) profile on the x52 app - which worked for Ed, but the throttle is still a switch.

What I could really do with is talking to someone who has it working.

there is a good guide for x52 profile in the forum .... i used this to get my x52 hotas working .. also its worth using windows key and r - then type joy.cpl
go into the properties tab and select it , then choose the MFD tab and make sure that the enable clutch and latched clutch are both off.

The forum weblink is forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=404286

in the x4 game settings , goto the control section and make sure the following options are off - bi directional throttle , gamepad mode and adaptive steering. Also its worth checking that you have a x52 profile installed in both the game and also the x52 pc app . don`t forget to double check in the manage controllers/joysticks options to see if it is installed

hope this helps.

Update:

I now have the same problem in ED. I may try downgrading the drivers.

Drivers downgraded, problem remains.

With "bi-directional" throttle off, it goes from just over half speed (with throttle at 0) to full speed (with throttle at max), with no intermediates.
With "bi-directional" on, it goes from 0 to max, again, with no intermediate.

I just don't get it.

it could be the ps2 connecting cable between the hotas and joystick base ... this happened to me and i just replaced the cable and it now works ok
