As with all patches and DLC, 5.0 and TOA will be compatible with earlier X4 saves, so it's up to you.

I like the idea of EgoSoft staying in business for the foreseeable future so I pre-order everything. I'd hate to live in a world where I'm playing an X game and reminiscing when EgoSoft made all the awesome stuff.

As a side note. Maybe future releases could encourage pre-order through something special. Samsung released one of their new phones giving pre-ordering customers i Korea a free NFT. I for one would love to collect something X universe related.

I heavily disagree.
I really dislike non-discount-type pre-order bonuses that are only available for pre-orders as it makes players who come at a later point to this franchise or players who want to wait for reviews to come out feel left out or not getting a complete product. Not to mention that most pre-order incentives are not pro-consumer, but a disguised customer manipulation by exploiting the "fear of missing out" to make the customer pay money before being able to know the quality of the product they're buying. At most a fair pre-order bonus should be a discount, nothing more, but in ToA's case I don't want a pre-order discount, I happily pay the full price even for a pre-order because I know how many hours of fun their games provide.

If there is something to be collected, it should be available to all, not just pre-orders, perhaps more physical products in the Egosoft store (ship models? official maps?).

Please let me clarify that I considered the NFT suggestion a marketing gimmick. A free digital item just like a soundtrack or whatever. This is hardly a scam and could trigger more interest in a pre-sale. That's all where I wanted to go. It's up to the customer to accept the NFT or not. No harm done.

I'm sorry if that was misunderstood as hopping on the NFT scam wave which undoubtedly exists.

The idea of a physical merch store is great. Still sad that I missed out on those 3D printed Kerbals when they where available. Wouldn't mind collecting physical X models, art, etc.

Checking the Tides of Avarice soundtrack:
- overall soudtrack is weaker than Split or Terran one

but

- out of all X4 soundtracks it shine with combat music (both Split and Terran shine with ambient)
- Lost and Long Forgotten is for me the best ambient track out of entire X4 music

WITHOUT knowing how the missions will be,

i am a bit dissapointed of the number of ships, weapons, no carrier , only one miner, (no gas miners ? ) , modules added by this dlc, they seem considerably less beefy than the terran or the split in terms of added assets. (its just an impression)

do hope the missions are awesome i have already payed for it, to support ego

There are not many games i get really excited about when an expansion comes out. I count on one hand and X UNIVERSE is in my top 2. I fell in love with x4 foundations, sunk hundreds of hours into it so far, struggled to learn previous games but nailed it this time, so i cant wait for more content and at a very good price too. Updates are welcome, everything is exciting here!

The Steam store page says the 14th for me, so I suspect it's a timezone thing. If your timezone is ahead of ours by far enough then it may be the 15th for you before the release time.
