Miner unloading speed

Post by spalan » Wed, 1. Dec 21, 08:58

I am trying to optimize my solids logistics. I have a big station in Argon Prime that uses Silicon, which of course has to be brought in. Currently, I have a number of L-miners attached to the station, which go back and forth between Argon Prime and where they mine (was it Hatikvah's Choice?). I am wondering whether it would be more efficient to build a station next to the field where they mine silicon and then have some miners just transport the Silicon between that drop-off station and my production station in Argon Prime. That would allow me to outfit the miners with lots of mining drones and allround drives, while the traders would be outfitted with lots of cargo drones and travel drives. Does this make sense? And what drone mix would you use on the miners? Finally, are there differences in the unloading speeds between different pier types?

Looking forward to your thoughts,
Stefan.

Set up the refining stations at the places you are mining then move the refined goods with the much faster freighters to the stations needed.

This can be done with
  • simple trade rules if the stations are in range of the manager skill to automatically buy/sell to your own stations
  • staging transportation though warehouse-stations, if distances are longer
  • repeat orders

That's the way to do it.

I may also suggest to use L miners for the mining and M miners for transporting. The reason for this is that miners get attacked while mining by Khaak (so the L miners have adequate defences), while nobody disturbs the Miners from transporting since Pirates do not have the holds for ore/silicon etc. Besides this way you are giving the M miner's pilots a better chance to level up...

Good points, all. I'll probably go that way for new stations.

Since I already have the raw material processing modules incorporated into my station in AP, I'm nevertheless thinking about transporting the raw silicon. It actually seems the Alligator Miner is one of the fastest M ships in the game, so I think transporting the raw Silicon with it should be fast enough. How do you outfit your L miners in light of the Khaak attacks? So far I had mining lasers all around and assigned them S and M fighters as escorts, but I'm now experimenting with outfitting them with some shard turrets. Do you know what mining speed really depends on? To what degree is it affected by the number of mining turrets vs. mining drones, for example?

You can tear down those processing modules and recoup the resources which can be used to build the other stations. :)

As for L miners, just few gun turrets will do and full set of shields etc.

L Miner Loadup:
All available L turrets Argon L Mining (Argon turrets have the fastest turning rate)
All availlable M Turrets Aegon Flak

The Teladi Crane Miner does not have L turrets so I put Argon M Mining to the ones facing front
