Doubt: spikes on cap ships
Hi everyone!
This doubt has been swirling around in my head for a long time and maybe someone can help me to answer it: what are the long needles / spikes in front of some of the capital ships?
I mean those like you can see in this pictures:
- https://s1.gaming-cdn.com/images/produc ... -cover.jpg
- https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/x4-fo ... 0512214625
- download/file.php?id=15447&mode=view
Thank you very much!
PS: I didn't know where to put this questions. Glad to move it to another forum if needed

Re: Doubt: spikes on cap ships
If they existed in reality they'd probably be some sort of antennae, though the pirate ship there also has what appears to be radiators on it and something that looks like it might grip cargo crates.
What they really are though is just greebles, bits of detail added to a model to make it look less empty and sterile. The ships in X4 are not designed in a realistic way (for one thing, they have the layout of a sea-going ship).

Thank you very much, LameFox!
I expected them to be useful somehow (not in X4 game, but in reality) I suppose it's only an aesthetic thing haha

They are for collecting bonnet mascots/hood ornaments (you said you had been wondering for a long time - see this ancient post).
A dog has a master; a cat has domestic staff.

Egosoft is not the first, nor only to design with pointy sticks. See https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/ ... ySpaceship
@Alan: I can't tell whether it is awe or fear that I sense every time you pull up "a not-new post" so effortlessly.
