Once you're in the endgame, it would be nice to automate promotions. Barring automation (or simulation of recognition of service ability), a script with a button -- Promote All. Reshuffle your personnel as best suited. The best captains would get the best ships. As it is, trying to do this manually is a chore when you have hundreds/thousands of personnel/ships, even with an empty crew ship to facilitate crew transitions.
Edit: It would reward cultivating crew, instead of punishing it with a click-fest counting in the literal thousands. Maybe there could even be a ceremony attached... with resource requirements...

I would also want to see that with the HQ terraforming pilot/marine trainings, that when you build a ship there it would take a pilot/captain from that pool if available. So if I've trained 5 pilots to 4 stars and build say 10 fighters, the 5 first fighters gets those 4 star pilots.
