Aim Assist setting switched itself off, won't switch back on.

Post by Taursin » Wed, 15. Sep 21, 14:10

So I've been playing for hours, no problem, using Num-lock to switch in and out of aim-assist to capture some ships.
Suddenly My aim-assist no longer works. The option in the settings just changes back when I leave the menu.
I am playing modded but tried switching them off and same thing. And like I say, I've just sat up all night playing no problems.
Makes no sense.
Any help is appreciated, Thanks in advance.

Edit: Also when I open the game and look in the settings there, the option is on, but when I load my game it is off again.

Only as a guess, perhaps try binding a different key to it in case the 4.10 version is setting or cancelling NumLock for some in-game purpose.

The only other more common cause of options toggling unwantedly is a stuck button or continuous/intermittent input of some sort from a controller, throttle or stick, etc.

I've also seen times where aim assist is turned on, yet it fails to work, especially when firing at capital ships. And then, it will start to work again. I don't know what conditions trigger this, but it is definitely a real bug.

There is a difference if you shoot via spacebar or the middle mouse button.
One of the methods uses aim assist, the other one doesnt iirc, but i might remember something wrong here.

Had the same issue recently and re-binding a key did the trick to be able to turn it on and off properly - think I was using " V ". Shortly after I had to do a full re-install anyway and the setting corrected itself / wasn't an issue anymore. As to the on but not seeming to work -- have seen this as well but near as I can figure either happens when the target is Large and can be hit anyway ( L hull targeted vice a surface module - or weapon types don't have the convergence I am used to and left the impression that they weren't getting the assist. Happens if you are too close to a target too. )

I was having this issue when firing with the joystick, with aim assist on.

Ctrl+A when in cockpit. It overrides the Game Menu setting.

Old post, but I found it through Google so I guess still relevant?

No, finding it with Google doesn't make it relevant. It's still an 18 month old thread talking about an earlier version of the game, and I very much doubt anyone is sitting around waiting for answers to it, so it can sink down.
