Video: Fleet battle (when it works)
Hello everybody,
While previously I have shown the deficiencies of combat fleet mechanics, now is time to show how things are when fleets work
Enjoy this fun litlle get together I had with the Xenon in sector Matrix #451: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBgfnZ8 ... 2vR4AaABAg
Note:
A bit of a warning, the clip is long (45 minutes)
The battle starts slow, but trust me, things heat up
This battle is what convinced me to make an adjustment to my usual fleet composition, by adding one more Tokyo+fighter escort.
What I have shown here, I believe is part of the reason for the "Make the Xenon great again" threads on this forums
Eager to hear...ahh..read, your thoughts

Wow, I've never watched an Asgard in action for long. That thing is taking I's down to about half hull in one shot! The I that got sorta close to you couldn't even scratch your shielding, either.

Good battle, it was nice to watch .
In my universe Xenons are extinct species so I can only watch movies like this.
Thanks for sharing

Re: Video: Fleet battle (when it works)
You're welcome
Xenons were extinct in my universe as well. Big part of the reason I made a terran cadet start was to bring Xenon back
For the longest time I was reluctant to make a new start and to abandon my billions, shipyards and infrastructure, especially with the mining nerfs, but after finally taking the plunge, I had a blast.
As for the Xenon, I have a permanent save spot for the moment in which the Asgard roll out of my shipyard, so if they become extinct or if the devs bring the Xenon back to former glory (pre 4.0 values), I can start dooking out with them all over again
As for the means of "making the xenon great again", I have come to the conclusion that the solution would be for the devs to come back to their senses and undo the mining nerf (or to make it less damaging to the Xenon, even tho I have no ideea how that would work). It's ok...we had our "challenge"... event thou I would not calling it a challenge as I would calling it just really annoying...
I also didn't like the "I like to play hardcore, so everybody should play hardcore" feel of the ppl that trigger this "awesome" change. If some players want to challenge themselves, add a dificulty setting at a new start, not screw the game for everyone else.
Ok, rant over

Re: Video: Fleet battle (when it works)
Not so sure the Xenon problem has much to do with mining myself. In my current game they haven't had much problem restocking sectors where I've wiped out everything except their stations & miners, so I could conduct missions there without interference. For example, this sector: https://www.dropbox.com/s/0t9k6uuk7okrc ... 1.jpg?dl=0 was completely devoid of Xenon warships just a few days ago. Don't think they could have rebuilt so many ships so quickly if mining was the issue.Ragnos28 wrote: ↑Tue, 22. Instead think the Xenon have a problem with the number of warships their enemies start a new game with. Noticed all the major NPC factions started my 4.0 game with much bigger fleets than they did in my previous games. In pre-4.0 versions would only expect to see those sort of numbers after at least a week or so, during which I've been doing an awful lot of trading with NPC shipyards, & it was only at that point that the Xenon would start to take a hammering. End result of which looked a lot like what happens to the Xenon now, just takes place a lot earlier in a 4.0 game. ZYA in particular had no problems at all holding their own against the Xenon, even taking several Xenon sectors, which was unthinkable in my 3.0 games. Used to have to pump a hell of a lot of resources into the ZYA economy to get that to happen previously (their ships require a ton of resources to build).
Great video by the way, thoroughly enjoyed watching it. Please do more.

Exactly my thoughts but after this movie I think you convinced me
Don't have time now but after patch 4.1 I should be more free and will start once again . But this time as a protector of Xenons

As for the Xenon, the sector that you shown, Tharka's Cascade XVII have some mineral deposits, so the Xenon are doing a bit better in them (in my game, they still have some presence in there, but the sector has mostly been pacified).
From what I have seen in my game, Xenon sectors with mineral resources fare better, while in the sectors with less mineral resources, they get wiped out, even if they still have stations, no ships are being produce (like SPG that have been conquered by the "mighty" teladi ). My guess is that the Xenon are being starved for silicon just like we are
That's why, in my game, sectors Matrix #9, Matrix #451, Matrix #79B, Tharka's Cascade XVII, remain my best "resource" for Xenon "harvesting", their other sectors are either conquered by the factions or empty.
Hmm...now that I think about it, maybe the solution for the Xenon problem is to increase the mineral deposits in their sectors I actually like the idea that development should be dependent on the mineral resources available.
So, this change would keep the "realism" of the game resources mechanics, while still letting the player have his "xenon fun"
Re: Video: Fleet battle (when it works)
Actually, you are better of waiting for 4.1. For once, it promises to finally address the issue of station managers sending all miners after ore when silicon storage is empty That will be a huge help, especially for those who make a new start
That change, and the promise that fighters landing IS on the Tokyo will not be the cringe festival that is now, makes me eager for pach 4.1 (as you have seen, I love my carrier action )
And yes, protect the Xenon No one should bully them, except me
Re: Video: Fleet battle (when it works)
Once a player-made Asgard gets built, the Xenon could get some sort of gift. We've been fighting Branch 9, so maybe Trunk C will open a gate of their own and start sending in reinforcements. Maybe the Kha'ak could get a boost, too, to start messing with the player's mining.

Re: Video: Fleet battle (when it works)
I don't mine. I don't have stations. Therefore, I don't build ships. Should we really have to do all that just to get couple more Xenon?
Indeed.

I almost fell asleep in the middle of the video. That beam is so OP that it turns the game into a snoozefest.Ragnos28 wrote: ↑Mon, 21. Jun 21, 22:48Hello everybody,

Re: Video: Fleet battle (when it works)
In that case, I hope you don't find the thread asking for the increase in dmg for the Asgard main battery to the point that it would 1 shot a xenon I...that will really aggravate you
Personally, given the resources required to get that ship (outside of capping), namelly, buying BP for shipyard, for the ship, for equipment to put on the ship, I don't mind the OP factor, is an end game objective after all
And since is so OP...there is an idea..
Dear Egosoft, please make sure that the Asgard blowup when captured (you know, like ATF ships in X3 TC) and no teleport out of the sector before capture finish to avoid destruction either
Maybe we get a surprise in 4.1,
Cheers
