Control X4 with a Phone or Tablet - Sim Dashboard

I am new to the X series because I love cockpits with trackir and full hotas and rudder pedals.

Goodness, X4 is way beyond what I expected, the universe is alive and I love single player only. I also love the stations and you can walk in cockpits.

Now to the topic..

Why is Sim Dashboard good?

You can swap between games without needing to remember any keys at all as you can set one up for each game.Just run any game and go straight away.

If you haven't bought X4 Foundations yet, don't hesitate as you only have to set up axis controls and some fire buttons - the rest are done for you!!

Can use with a phone or a tablet (Android).

Quicker and easier than using a keyboard (not need to hold shift keys or look for a key).

For me a keyboard breaks immersion.

I have made them also for other games as well as X4. You can download them in the Android App from the Community - just look up my name "Fang"

Its a bit like having a customized simpit for each one - if you try it you may agree.

How to install?

to install sim dashboard and get it running takes only a few minutes:

1) PC - download and install the PC program

2) Phone/tablet - install the app

3) have both running

4) on the phone/tablet app press the 3 dots top-right for settings then choose "setup your pc" and there is a wizard.

5) Then - Note you need to make a SINGLE BUTTON BOX - then put in 4 BLANK PAGES (in Android app search for my name "Fang" - then for each page choose 1 of the 4 pages. That way a single press will take you to the next page eg I prefer to press the top left corner to go to each page.

For X4 I used someones keyboard map I found, hope that is ok - since the buttons are small I put on slightly bigger invisible boxes. Once you press you can see them bigger. I have no issue with clicking the wrong item.

Evochron Legacy - also has 3 buttons screens (and a map) - this one is for combat - showing an example you can make screens per what you are doing.

So I encourage anyone who knows this X4 Foundations better than me to develop this idea further and have better more logically organised controls and other additional controls that might be handy. It doesn't take so long to do.

Jokes aside, why would one ever use a smartphone as input device just because using a keyboard breaks immersion? If you want immersion in a space sim, you should get a hotas.

Technically, X4 ships use some sort of holographic touch display (some use keyboards too) in all ships, so wouldn't a keyboard or a touchscreen be more immersive in that aspect ?

In my case I am a flightsimmer, I like simulation games (including pinball).

I would say I am not the normal audience for X games. This is my first. I don't like games using the mouse "excessively". I have never played a FPS, MMO, multiplayer game or owned a console.

As such I have around 12 games..

I have a Thrustmaster Warthog, VKB Rudder Pedals and TrackIr and a 42 inch screen.

For me I could not remember all the keybinds for Xplane 11, IL2-1946, Evochron Legacy, Rebel Galaxy Outlaw, Infinity Battlescape, WOTR, WOFF, Strike Fighters 2 etc. So instead I use various Android Apps on my Samsung Android Tablet.

For me immersion is all important so I like the Simpit idea and a touchscreen (much like in the Expanse series).

My interest in X4 is having a fighter ship with some support ships to do mining, trading but mostly combat and piracy. I won't be mouse clicking to create stations, controlling massive fleets etc

So most of my time will be in the cockpit
