idle boarding pod - failed boarding of abandoned ship

I had a pirate bail on me

I "claimed" the ship and flew off after the boarding pod cleared my ship. It failed, he's been floating out there for hours now.

I sent a second ship while I was in another sector and it successfully claimed the ship, which i promptly sold to the nearest shipyard.

I now have a Boarding Pod in my inventory of Unassigned Ships that I can't seem to do anything with. (pick up, sell, haven't tried shooting it yet)

What are my options here

I couldn't work out how to recover the idle pod

After letting the poor fella float in space for days I finally flew over and shot him.

he's pining for the fjords now and no longer in my property menu
