Split Suicidal Trade Ships

Post by Treycore » Tue, 20. Apr 21, 21:54

Seems like a major weakness that ZYA has is that they keep throwing trade ships through a xenon infested Tharka’s Cascade and even if they survive the xenon they need to survive the Argon on the other side of that gate in Hatikvah’s Choice... they burn for the highway and some make it but majority always seem to die on this journey

I’d imagine the return trip for these traders is equally just as dangerous, I feel like the AI should just not want to travel through 3+ enemy sectors to try and save a couple credits

I’d imagine this is why the split seem to fall behind in a lot of games

Anyone seen a good fix for this? Mods or otherwise?

HAT acts as a middle man for ZYA and ARG. So, it's just one sector that they have to risk. Non-combat ships are sometimes spared from being fired upon (Exception: Xenon & Kha'ak). Besides, there is no police in Hatiikvah's choice 1 since it belongs to HAT. They are basically cleaner SCA.
A safer route is through Morning Star which ZYA also uses.

But, in my game, ZYA has only two sectors left with broken economy, so none of that matters. Xenon crushed ZYA so bad.

I’ve definitely seen ARG fire upon ZYA traders but I think it depends on how fast they come out the gate, they won’t actively go after them but if they are in weapons range they will take shots at them

Must have been lucky in game starts because in all 3 since SV ZYA has taken Tharka's Cascade fairly early. With 2 of them being before COH.

I’m running a personal mod that ups the xenons number of miners and + 1 extra defense fleet per cluster, seems to help them a bit, especially the miners

I wish NPC factions makes use of blacklists, in my game pre COH this is one of the reason the Split is so weak, alot of their traders get destroyed flying through Tharka Cascade and badly damaging their economy.

Luck is a matter of perspective. A sample after 155 hours of SV 3.10-3.30. ZYA took something that was not "new sectors" in this one.

However, even in this "state of tranquility" you could see ZYA freighters and miners happily sail due South via #598 and Rhy. Were they heading to Hatikvah via Cascade? Hard to say, but I bet that Odysseus made it back home before the Split did.

Yes, but that could have issues too. For example, the above screenshot has Family Phi and Zyarth separated by enemies. Which is worse: some trade with heavy losses or no trade at all?

That could be somewhat solved by giving 80% of the ships a blacklist. The other 20% would be those crazy high risk pilots that dare to go through zones. Bonus points if the ones that dont get a blacklist would be those ships with really good gear and maybe even an escort.

That way they would not wreak all their traders but keep the majority somewhat safe while still showing that some people do risk it all.

I think a blacklist would be nice but I can already see some issues with one, like contested sectors or the AI having trouble building a defense platform in a neighboring enemy sector

I just wish when calculating a route it would factor in danger, I’m 90% sure whatever the AI was trying to go buy/sell with the trade ships could just be bought or sold closer or even in the Teladi sector of open market which is a bit further away

Destruction is always good, every ship destroyed needs to be replaced but they’re losing a lot of ships doing this

I only really started paying attention to this because I’m working on adding a sector near holy vision/black hole sun to give argon/holyorder a battleground to fight over but adding that sector just had argon ships thinking it was ok to use the highway in holyvision

My only workaround is just adding another sector attached to that one and have that one connected to pontifex’s claim, helps redirect the traffic when it runs its routing logic
