The wait is over, and the next chapter of the X4: Foundations space simulation has begun! You can now download the extensive free 4.00 update to the base game, which expands and improves it in numerous ways. Gameplay changes include completely new features such as Terraforming, new options for managing hostilities, improved fleet control, and a new emergency eject feature. On the technical side, the 4.00 update brings volumetric fog effects, improves the fading-in of asteroids, and adds a visual shield impact effect. >> Full changelog <<

But that’s not all! Today we are celebrating the release of X4: Cradle of Humanity, the second expansion for X4: Foundations. The expansion brings the X series back to Earth. It significantly expands the game universe with new sectors, and welcomes two Terran factions along with their economies, ships, weapons and stations. New gamestarts introduce players to the identities and political stances of the Terran factions, and offer alternative perspectives on events in the story of X4: Foundations. New storylines, with cutscenes and brand-new character models, will draw you deeper into the X-Universe and keep you enthralled.

We're back with another hotfix for X4: Foundations 4.00 to deal with a couple of remaining issues, so that you can spend more time with the game over the Easter weekend.

  • Fixed re-tasked NPC traders sometimes holding on to reservations for trades they are not going to complete.
  • Fixed not seeing assigned trainees on HQ after relocating it to sector without training capabilities.

  • Fixed missile launchers not being available to Terran and Pioneer factions.
  • Fixed license requirements for missile launchers and turrets.

  • Fixed blacklist entries for certain sectors not being loaded after saving.
  • Fixed incorrect Torus airlock state if players teleports unexpectedly.

  • Fixed Advanced Satellite deployment not registering in The Meeting story mission.

  • Fixed Save Them From Themselves mission not ending if important character is no longer available when objective is completed.
  • Fixed Hatikvah mission getting stuck when interrupting Dal during Teladi meeting.
  • Fixed Operation Hyena Station construction failing to complete.
  • Fixed Falx asking for impossible equipment loadout in Terran Deliver Fleet missions.
  • Fixed Oberth not accepting antimatter cells in specific circumstances.
  • Fixed Final Debrief not continuing when defending Saman from Pirates under specific circumstances.
  • Fixed issues with Undercover Trader in Zyarth's Coffin story mission.
  • Fixed NPC in Treacherous Shallows mission getting killed if station is destroyed before player starts conversation.
  • Fixed Moreya gained in Astronauts, Champions, Truth Seekers mission remaining locked from pilot assignment after end of plot.
  • Fixed missing reputation reward for A Heart for Pirates mission.
  • Fixed encyclopedia entry selection when opening sector entries.
  • Fixed targeting capital ships not unlocking weapon and thruster information in Encyclopedia.
  • Fixed missing option to resume production if production module is marked for recycling or is hacked.

Having said that... it turns out that a few screws were still a little loose, especially in some of the plot missions, and we've been tightening them as quickly as we can for a new hotfix. Check out the changelog while you download the update:

  • Fixed missing Argon dock blueprint for player during Displaced mission in Terran gamestarts.
  • Fixed ship to escort in Escape Plan mission sometimes not moving to station.

  • Fixed Wartime Economics mission getting stuck if last Xenon flees instead of being destroyed.
  • Fixed missing Preferred Build Method option for resupply ships.

Note to GeForce RTX 30 Series GPU users
We'd also like to take this opportunity to remind you again about the GeForce Hotfix Driver Version 462.07 that was released by NVIDIA earlier this week. If can be found downloaded here, and addresses the "lost device" crashes some GeForce RTX 30 Series GPU users may have experienced.

Please use NVIDIA's Display Driver Feedback Form if you still experience issues after updating to the new hotfix driver.

Good job on the new sectors and the new music. The plots are cool too :thumb_up:

At release the game was a bit barebones, but now it blows X3 out of the water :D

I bought the game and all the DLC (split and cradle of humanity). So in Steam do I select 4.00 - Version 4.00 (legacy)? What is meant by "legacy"? Is this how you are supposed to get the update 4.00, by choosing 4.00 - Version 4.00 (legacy)? If I dont choose anything here (let it be on "None") will I then not get 4.00? If so, which version do I get if I select "None"?

Confused by this, so would be very thankful for any help.

Sounds like you’re overthinking it to me. If you’re talking about the beta branches in steam, you should select ‘none’, then boot the game. You should be able to see if it’s 4.0 easily enough. If CoH loads, it should be obvious from the menu screen once the game loads.

As 4.0 is now out of beta, you shouldn’t need to be in the beta branches. If something goes wrong and still no 4.0, verify game files and try again.

EDIT: If you want to be extra safe, back up your saves before you do this.

Ok thank you, I wont select anything under BETA. Ah, so that is what is meant by "Legcay"? That it's obsolete, now that Cradle of Humanity is released? Cradle of Humanity is automatically include 4.00 (right?). Yes Im overthinking, I do that sometimes lol

Legacy versions are old versions provided in case a recent patch may have broken things for you.

You’re really not supposed to overthink it.

If you wanna test the beta versions, select the beta branch. If not, stick to "none".

This is become a horror game with the Yaki and the scream :lol:
But I love it

What I love most are those small ships Terran engine sounds.
But I do noticed the ships fly differently. Its easy to fly past objects.

SPOILER!

Hey, my yaki questline got bugged after destroying the amplifier station and the quest ojective would not update. I got the conversation after blowing the station up, and I had already k formed the terrans there were no yaki organized threat, but the ojective did not change from "destroy the station" and I cannot progress. Advice?

Booted up Foundations last night and came up as Cradle of Humanity loaded my save game just fine but I just bought x4 in Feb. and am still doing the Paranid and Split plots and barely got past the decision point in the Split plot as two K's were destroying the Zyarth headquarters as I was inside, hope I don't have to go back there, trying to build the fleet and rep in Heart of Acrimony but now there are dozens of Yaki all over the sector which is a bit of a hassle with the mass of Xenon taking over a lot of sectors around me. So is it possible to disable Cradle until I finish up with my Young Gun start so I can do a fresh start with Cradle when I'm ready?

You can disable DLCs in the options menu->extensions, just like any other mod.
However, saves that were made with a DLC active probably won't work if you deactivate the DLC.
