Where do the Orders come from??

Post by Lone_Wolf_3115 » Sun, 7. Jul 19, 15:25

When I Build A Freighter, I Try to Build a Couple of Fighters to Give Them Some Semblance of Defense when SCA Challenge them for their Cargo...
However, More Often than not, I get a Red Pop Up that "X" Freighter has been Destroyed in "Y" System...
At This point, I reload a game from Half Hour or so Back, and try to find out what Happened to My Defense for that Freighter...

What I have seen is that The Fighters, I Assigned From Manufacturer to DEFEND THAT Freighter, Are Two Or Three Systems Away From Where that Freighter Was Killed.
After some time looking into WHY They were not at the assigned Task, I see there is an EXTRA Order that has Been Placed into their Order Que, of "Fly and Wait"...

Since I Took Said Fighter From The Warf, and The First Assignment I Gave It Was Defend "This Ship"... Where did the Command "Fly and Wait" Come From???

It would seem to me that there are still Command Bugs that show their Ugly Heads now and then which are Very Annoying...

Escort ships always got the command to fly to the freighters destination instead of flying with them in formation.

Sadly that's by design since 1.0.

Yep, escort ships are just about worthless as a result of that. They do nothing because they are almost never in proximity to the ship they 'protect'. Assigning them to 'follow' is just as bad. They will plod along at cruise speed even though the ship they are following is running in travel drive.

I just arm up the M freighters with Shard or Pulse turrets and they generally seem to hold their own against S pirates. Couriers however seem to be cannon fodder even with a gun mounted, so I have to leave the default as "comply" or they will get chewed up.

Fast coursier vanguard with paranides MK3 combat engines seem to be most of the time too fast for the pirates and it may be the solution too, having them set to flee combat. Or put a green mod to make them faster. (But it's tedious to repeat)

Usually cause of this and the fact freighter don't use their cargo space well, i prefer using faster (like paranides) or heavily shielded/armed freighter to deal with this. That means that actually Teladi Freighters are almost completely useless cause of this, cause slow with poor shields and will most of the time never use their cargo space as they should. A bit funny to have the trader race the less efficient at this task.

Also having escorts for your player ship when in autopilot stifle the speed of your ship when you go into travel mode. A case of the Buffalo Herd only going as fast as their slowest Buffalo; that is, until you go into manual control and they can't keep up.

It's weird that in autopilot, you stay in formation, yet NPC controlled ships in a squad can't do that, it's "Catch me if you can!!" behavior.

A lot of things work a lot differently on auto pilot or controlled by the AI, and i don't really know why, except the will to make one working better than the other. When on auto pilot, it disengage often on the highway in my game while the pilot (when i'm sitting behind him) have no issues. On the other hand, the pilot many time drill the back of a station to pass through walls while the auto pilot have no issue finding the exit (the real one i mean).

I think in general they have a lot of work to do when it comes to AI piloting. Not just the ship itself but also for 'Protect', 'Follow', Fleets/Squad and Drones. There are several issues on each area. Let's not mention how many stars needed for various stasks which I find the current rating very stupid.

Right now trying to play the game without mod but it is frustrating! I mean come on, a 5 star pilot crashing after finishing the short highway, instead of going out straight then next destination, it decides to crash right into the highway anchor, glitch through it then move on to next destination. Jump gates... lets go through the ring from the SIDE first then through to jump.... seriously? Not to mention the constant tango around near astroids, highway, or anything before turning the ship to next destination. Sometimes I watched for 3 min this pilot doing some weired maneuvers even drunk pilots would say "your pilot ishh drunkk *hick*".

Maybe we shouldn't ask for Co-pilot seat yet either.

I got back on this am, and Checked several of the "Fleets?". The Escorts do not now have Added Commands, and on Map View, I see them Flying The "Point Guard" Formation they have been Assigned... They Fly Ahead of the Ship they are Escorting, and Then Loop Back to the Required Distance for the Formation they are Assigned...

Much Better than Recent Findings.
