Torpedoes -> One must really hate lock boxes a lot to need to over kill them this much.

It's much, MUCH easier in an S class fighter
Have a weapon config that is just 1 weapon
get to within about 70m of the lockbox

slowly WASD until the aim-point dot is over a lock
tap space to fire once
repeat for each lock

redock your S class fighter to your goto main-ship

You forgot one step:

...Get ready and back up, turn and boost away as soon as you shoot the last lock, in case there are mines inside ;)

Unless you need cash badly torps are perfect from a time spent vs value aspect.

Bit of a Necro post but new stuff in game ..

If you can get your hands on a Nimcha, those are nice as a Box scavanger with good hull and when modded a bit.

Single weapon Ion Blaster, and if you have a good pilot in the seat set his default behaviour for found lock boxes to collect, and flee from attacks / pirates.

Then set it to Explore a sector or three. Teleport in to collect the loot periodically.

Dont know if this is new behaviour for v4.10 beta's, but my guy is managing to stay far enough away from the odd accidental explosions.
(Hmm, maybe I ought to have kept that quiet so it doesn't get nerfed to annoy those of us who hate lock box hunting)
Laptop Dell G15 5510 : Win 11 x64

I think that if you don't pickup the wares personally they are lost.

Fixed ships getting spawned away from ship configuration menu at resupply ships from automatically getting deployables.

Your Assets has a separate tab for ships, whose "pilot's personal inventory" contains something.

Yo scaley, hand me the profitss!
Got a bit of damage in the video, but nothing to concern, hull has 3000 and shield has the Targe mod, plus very experienced Engineers onboard.
Just wish the profits in this case were better than a bunch of Herbicide

The weapon mod on the MK1 Ion is Expediter, rolled to get best bullet speed but decreased reload time (instead of the other roll possibility of increased damage, if you roll Expediter and it includes an extra property of damage you dont seem to be able to roll that property with a negative value .. I tried, lots!)

I normally fly and fight with joystick, but will switch to unassisted mouse-aim for both opening lockboxes and clearing out minefields.
It's the only option that makes sense to me right now, unless they ever allow us to select locks and mines.
Humans are deuterostomes, which means that when they develop in the womb the first opening they develop is the anus.
This means that at one point you were nothing but an asshole.

Some people never develop beyond this stage.

Blast Rays work great for this. They don't seem to damage the lockbox but break locks very quickly. Also its a beam weapon so its a bit easier to aim.

You mean Burst Rays?

Burst ray MK1 = 173.3mw Hull damage
Ion Blaster MK2 = 24mw Hull damage

Ion Blaster is great for shield damage, but only scratches hulls, and its less hull damage thats important for lock boxes

https://roguey.co.uk/x4/weapons/

A beam is probably more accurate, but boost the bullet time with in game mods on the Ion blaster makes them just as good near instant hits at such short range.

(That reminds me I made the mistake of installing MK1 Ion blaster on my Nimcha in the video linked earlier, must change that, MK2 does less Hull damage than MK1).

Yes Burst Ray. TBH I only stumbled on this playing last night. I have a Gladius set up with 2 Burst rays and 2 blast cannons (not sure of the name, I am at work) that is attached to my Marine force (Osprey and 5 Minotaur's) I use for liberating pirate ships. The burst ray is really nice for taking out engines and turrets. Follow up with the blast cannon to take shield down and get the hull <80% before sending in the boarding group. As it happens there was a lockbox right next to my recent capture. While the marines were doing their thing, I took care of the lockbox. My gun option were the cannon or ray. It actually did better than I expected it to.

You could use a mining laser. If you're having NPC pilots do the steering anyway, drop them in a little mining ship and send them off.

I prefer the Ion blaster for it being part of my standard equipment.
On a bad day I use the Asgards mainbeam, nukes the station behind the box, too.

use weapon slot 2 and make sure only one gun is enabled in that slot.
now make sure your target is not selected and keep your aim dot inside the object.
As soon it go outside the object the aiming dot moves somewhere unpredictable.
position your ship good for each lock so you can easily shoot it while having the aiming dot inside the object and on top of the lock.

This works perfect for me with any weapon except missile launchers
