Re: Official Video: X4 Foundations - Infos about next Updates 1.5 and 2.0
Looks interesting, although I have a nagging feeling that the "little surprise for 1.5" isn't what I'd like it to be... Just to clear one thing up though: "In X Rebirth people didn't wan't to talk to NPCs" - no, in X Rebirth people didn't want to have to talk to the NPCs. That's one small but huge difference. Just like people don't want to have to chase after the passengers, or dock and walk just to hear "thanks". Speaking of which, you could call up mission contacts from space in X Rebirth, but at least for now it seems you can't with X4?.. I haven't played myself yet, so only going off of what I saw.

I really hope Egosoft enables the use of digital seminars in 1.5 and not 2.0.
Now that the universe is filled with war, qualified crew/pilots/managers/marines is going to be very needed!
ps: Egosoft, your amazing and x4 is a true continuation of the x-series. You guys are doing a great job, my sincere thanks!

Thanks for sharing the video
Nice to hear from Bernd, and good to hear some of what they're working on. I do hope that AI navigation is fairly high up on their list to sort too however. I think there's been some improvement, but there's still an awful lot of station ramming - and subsequent clipping through - going on. Plus combat can feel a bit off at times when, mostly larger ships it seems, go a little bit crazy from time to time. Or, as I saw this evening, fly directly at where their target was[/]i a few minutes earlier when originally given an attack command.
I must admit, I'm liking walking around on station much much more than I ever did in Rebirth. I want to sand around watching the ships go in and out, it's really quite a sight. So, more interaction with NPC's - and perhaps other things in the future - will fit well.
I'm confident Egosoft will provide the same levels of support they have in all their prior titles.
Scoob.

Interesting that Bernd concentrates on the zooming of the map, implying that there is a lot people arnt finding?
And I wonder what the surprise in 1.5 is. Is it Boron?

I have to admit I'm enjoying stations / walking around a lot. I hope they add some more optional content to the walking content in the game. I also home modders dig into it as well. Be fun some day having seasonal events done by a modder like Christmas tree's and lights and such on stations haha.

The surprise will probably be venture missions or stats for the site.

Re: Official Video: X4 Foundations - Infos about next Updates 1.5 and 2.0
There is something outside the original corners of the map, they already said it - also, sometimes stations can be built there, either in the initial seed or I suppose after as well - but very little from everyone's experience. It's more like secrets than "a lot" from what we've seen. Consider I'm (and quite a few others are) using a mod that reveals every station in a sector: there almost never are stations outside those borders, at least in the first few hours of the game.
The idea itself is nice, I very much like it, but the implementation is so counter intuitive (the very fact they have to explain it is proof of that, once again the result of their very own idea of how UIs should work) it backfires. If there was - or will be - much stuff out there, then it's going to be a pain to discover (especially with the ludicrously short "long" range scanner and radar ranges, that artificially make you waste time), if there isn't... then what's the point?
Other than that, good to hear some roadmap, although the big elephants in the room aren't being addressed, with the exception maybe of the war system, but I very well understand why that will take much more time to be finetuned and tested, as it wasn't possible to do before launch. Already the fact that in 1.32 it actually works - good or bad we'll see - is vital. Certain other things - like ship design being all over the place or of "inferior" quality - well, it would just have been rude to be even mentioned. I'm sure they've read many of the debates about it, and will try do to what's possible. The system might not let them really do miracles, but they are passionate. They do things wrong many, many times, maybe, but they try hard.

Re: Official Video: X4 Foundations - Infos about next Updates 1.5 and 2.0
I'd think ventures should be more down the road. I mean, the game is hardly working or balanced for traditional single player experience right now, as much as that would be "fake" multiplayer, it seems a bit too early for that. Granted, even the relative achievement is already in game, so they might prove me wrong.
I'm baffled though the player shipyards are more likely to come in 2.0: heck, there already is a mod ready that would do it, it only needs GUI bugfixing by Egosoft before it can be finished and released.

Looking forward to release 1.5 and 2.0
Specially the X3 retro feel and X Rebirth talk to NPC to get mission stuff.

No mention of AI?
No mention of Turrets targeting?
No mention of missing encyclopedia?
No mention of bugged war missions? (can't finish any of them because of bugs)
Player shipyard is cool and all, and I also love the fact that they are adding betty. But i think AI fix and turrets targeting fix should be top priority imo...
I hope the surprise will be the announcement of ship design overhaul...

Patch 1.32 beta: Fixed guild missions not correctly restarting if a mission was failed or aborted. They are already working on that, or well, some parts of the issues plaguing them.Warnoise wrote: ↑Tue, 11. Dec 18, 03:19 No mention of AI?

Some of the things you mentioned are your everyday bug squishing, it's given for granted (don't expect too much from the turrets, but they did work *decently* in the past, so...). Others, like the flying AI... well, they weren't able to fix it in X3 over more than 10 years, we needed a very talented modder (and some hackwiz magic workaround) so we didn't have anymore ships smacking into everything in sight, don't keep your hopes up too much

Turrets already had a big pass over and today they fixed bug with ships not being fully taken over and turrets acting up.Warnoise wrote: ↑Tue, 11. Dec 18, 03:19 No mention of AI?

They talked about documentation and they want to work more on it.
I think they even did more passes on bug missions today as well.

I don't think most people would be asking to talk to the NPCs if there weren't any around in the first place, or if they didn't have a dialog option... with one choice.radcapricorn wrote: ↑Tue, 11. That's just basic psychology, of course if you put NPCs in the game people will at least *try* interaction with them, and will have expectations about them. And the higher the game's visual fidelity, the higher the expectation that they'll behave realistically.
Also, the reason that nobody wanted to talk to the NPCs in Rebirth (let alone be forced to do it!) is that they were a bunch of copy-pasted robots all spewing the same lines. You need to write a lot of dialogue to make NPCs interesting to talk to, and unfortunately like the BBS, Egosoft are not fond of that. Personally, I would've been cool with a Morrowind-style, "hyperlink" text-only dialog system. I could really get lost in a conversation asking about people's weird culture in that game, and it would be a great fit for the X series should Ego want to flesh out their NPCs without spending millions on voice acting.

Sadly, no mention about a fix for having X4 detect all controllers correctly (issue: viewtopic.php?f=180&t=402586)

Re: Official Video: X4 Foundations - Infos about next Updates 1.5 and 2.0
You're overcomplicating for no reason. The NPCs have been "around" since X:BtF, and we've been "talking" to them since X:BtF, there's nothing new about that. Having to do something completely out of the way, and rather pointless, just to get another mission or objective is just silly - that is my point. That's why BBS were replaced with on-the-fly mission offers in X3TC, and that's why same on-the-fly offers returned as a mission list after a failed attempt to re-introduce mission hunt in Rebirth. That doesn't mean missions shouldn't be accessible from NPCs on-station, that only means that that shouldn't be the only way to get them.Ovni wrote: ↑Tue, 11. To date, there are still things locked behind NPCs on stations in Rebirth: employee skills, be they reveals or training, there goes the "never enter stations again". Hopefully those vestiges don't find their way into X4 with future changes.
