[Request] Disable jump-to-ship (shift-D) when designing a station

Post by Zloth2 » Thu, 28. Mar 24, 21:55

I've had a few times now where I suddenly lose all progress while designing a station. I'll be a long way into it, holding down shift most of the time to make sure rotations stick to 15 degrees, and suddenly POP! The designer screen is gone. Instead, I'm looking at a dialog asking me which ship I want to board. <sigh> I tried to move the camera to the right before getting my finger off the shift key, and now all my changes are lost.

A confirmation before throwing everything away would be nice but, honestly, I can't think of any situations where I would want to go straight from the station design window to a ship bridge/cockpit. I've almost always got the game paused anyway.

timid." ---- Q

+1

Adding the same treatment for the ESC key won't hurt either... :oops:

For now would recommend changing the keys to something less easy to hit by accident, or remove the setting completely. Incidentally, I did the latter - can still teleport around if I really want to by selecting ships or stations on the map (although it's VERY rare that I'm in that much of a rush). However, found I almost never used shift-D except by accident (invariably annoying), so it was highly preferable to simply delete that setting so it could never again cause a problem.

I'd also like this very much.

I have gone the other extreme than GCU Grey Area: I have given up on the station designer camera keys entirely.

I use the shift+D combo too often in normal gameplay to unbind it (it's my "get out of manager/representative/trader office quickly, back to taxi-Pegasus" shortcut.)

@CulunTse

Indeed - the muscle memory plays tricks here. IF one uses the Shift + D a lot (I do as well..).

ESC is on the same page here for me - closing modal dialogues / stepping back for me is hammering ESC. Which is quite fatal in the station designer.. (reminds me of cmd + W situation when I have to work on mac os... -.-)
