Just bought x4, runs like trash, please help

I just purchased x4 steam version with dlcs. It runs like complete unplayable trash on my new pc laptop: amd ryzen 9 5900 hs, rtx 3070, 16 g ram, 16 g vram.
What is going on here? The frame rate is absurdly low. Unplayable.
What can I do to make my purchase work here?

I would recommend registering your game so you can have access to the Technical Support forum. And from there, you can get more specialized help than what you would get in the general forum.

It’s on steam. I don’t know how to ‘register’ it beyond that.

What sort of fps are you experiencing? There is an in-game fps counter you can check, or use Steam fps counter. Note that when the map is open, the fps tends to be much lower, because the map is very CPU intensive.

Like 3 frames per second. Literally. I have not been to a map. I know nothing about any map because I cannot get past just starting in the room and the extremely jerky attempt to move. This is not just and unpleasantly low frame rate, it’s unplayable.

I never had this kind of trouble with a game. This is a gaming laptop, nothing else is running. I run high-end games all the time, with never a temperature problem, or any other kind of problem. I tried ‘running as administrator’, so directly from exe, and that’s no better. Drivers are up to date. i have a normal antivirus program which doesn’t bother any other game.
im not in any scenario, because it runs too poorly to do anything but barely move jerkily around the first spawn room.
i should add that my partner got this game at the same time and he is experiencing the exact same problem. Similar laptop but older, and not as advanced graphics card.

A bundle deal. I have a very good gaming laptop and this is not a top shelf graphics game. Seriously, why the question? There is absolutely no reason why this should not run for me.

Check the in-game graphics options and make sure your notebook is using the RTX3070.
When you get 3 fps with a notebook it is because it is using the integrated gpu.

That’s the first thing I checked, and it was using the nvidia, not the integrated gas card. So that’s not the problem.

On the forum, click where it says Game Registration and link it with Steam. Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy.

You might want to check that again. Driver issues can sometimes mean that It can appear to be running on the dedicated graphics card, but actually be running on the integrated one.
