How to influence factions power?

So, I am playing XR again and I have a question for those XR vets still following this board. The question is: may I influence the power of a faction just doing commerce for them?

For example, let's say I role-play being a trader for PMC, do I help them becoming more important/powerful in the Galaxy's economy or war when I provide goods to their stations and thus helping their economy?

Sorry for the noob question but it's what I am (noob) after so much time not playing it :D

You can't influence factions at all.
