Loving this guide so far, thanks to everyone who contributed and Cow for taking the time to put it all together. I do have a noob question tho. I set up a Delaxian Wheat Farm M in Herron's Nebula, right now I have it set to sell at 24CR but I'm really just breaking even beween one mercury supplying it with Ecells and one actively selling wheat, I'm really not making a profit. What is a good way to judge what to set the sell price to as to make some actual money?

Sell at above average and buy low, is the simple answer, some factories will always be desperate enough to pay the top dollar for wheat.
Try setting your Ecell buying rate to 15, and wheat to 30Cr, that should start churning a profit, and if you find your wheat stock are backing up, and nobody is buying that high, then just tune down the price slightly.
------------
Thanks to Surray, I now have a profit opportunity for Paranid space. If anyone else has Paranid suggestions, please do post them or PM me, as the Paranid sections are very... erm... empty.

I've got another factory idea for Argon space,
There is a huge demand for 1MJ shields in the core argon sectors, setting up a 1MJ shield fab in Home of Light gives your freighter easy access to all of the resources needed (energy, ore and meatsteak cahoonas) and within two jumps there are 3 equipment docks: Argon Prime, Cloudbase South East and Red Light.
This is looking to be a good earner because the shields seem to be selling faster than I can make them.
I'll try adding a second 1MJ shield factory and making a complex when I've got enough money, unless someone else wants to try this.

Shotage of rastor oil in split sectors around family pride.
also look at how emtpy most trading docks are- set up fabs for them
-shortage of soja husk in sectors around paranid prime-
-Set up a 10GJ factory in sectors around argon prime as shortage through out whol universe
- look in trading docks around reservoir of tranquility supply needed resources (will require complex hubs that produce raw materials. e.g soyfarm to supply your soyery etc)
What i do is each day i go to a specific races sector areas. Then i look in their trading docks to see what their missing. I build factory complexes in a way that they cover the tading supply too a maximum of two sectors away. This does work as i have made up to 2 billion credits so far 2,000,000,000 thats a hell of a lot of zero's . If you want i can post up on a seperate thread or this one every one of my fabs-sectors their in etc cause my empire is huge. I am off for one or two hours to go do some work so don't expect and answer too soon. Laters everyone

Majaglit sells for 9cr in Preachers Void pretty constantly and most paranid trade stations buy for 36, also needed for satalites so more trade ops there.

A rather long trade run can be made with Lasertowers once you have sufficient credits. A full factory (There is one in Argon Prime and a number of others) sells at 25K below average price. This means you can buy 8 for just over 1m credits. The trading stations of all races will but these but only at about half of the stations and they will only take 2 each.
It does mean 4 sales drops at different stations to net you 200K, but the large turnover figures should increase your trading rank reasonably quickly

Paranid space at the south of the map near argon prime has many soya farms and soyaries. You can get a good supply of soya beans from the either the left of the map on the border sector, or towards the south east side of paranid space (just below preist pity) and sell them off at the soyeries at preists pity. You can buy them for around 14-20 and sell at 35-42.
Once you have a good rythm in doing this, pick up the soya from the soyaries and sell them off in all of the tech facts around paranid space.
Once you have enough credits, set up either a soya farm in priets pity, or a soyary in any of the border sectors, which will give you a good cash boost, as there is lots of demand for soya in general because of the amount of tech stations around.

I have read the tutorial but not (all) the replys.
But in X2 I have made some money with factory loops (about 250 factories together).
Is it in X3 a profit bringer too? (I know that alone factories make more profit per piece, but a loop is quite good altogether).
I have bought per station one ship for selling (three or more for spp). And set the highest price for buying items and foreign selling prohebited.
So I just needed a ship per station and the whole loop was in one sector.
I have no idea how the economy is in X3, but for the advanced trading it was quite good and I got some money too (I bought some destroyers, many corvettes and lots of fighters and so on...)

I was wondering if anyone has had any success with a BoGas factory in Power Circle?
Three Worlds, Power Circle and Antigone Memorial have two wheat farms each and zero stock of BoGas. The only thing that has me questioning it is the low amount of product a BoGas Factory makes. It's something around 500 units or so and with a low-end selling price it doesn't seem like a big money maker.

I have a BoGas fab in Emperors Edge (south of Paranid Prime). 3 Soyfarms which need boGas as a secondary ressource. They always pay at least 400cr per BoGas. I also have the usual wheatfarm in home of light selling wheat at 40cr
I buy Ecells at 15cr everywhere.
Now lets compare those two:
BoGas has 50 cycles per hour and makes 5 units per cycle, that's 250 BoGas units per hour. It needs to have 90 Ecells per cycle at 15cr per cell. That's 90 x 15 x 50 = 67500cr per hour in ressources needed. 250 BoGas at 400cr means I net a round 100000cr per hour from sales.
100000cr - 67500cr = 32500cr pure profitssss per hour.
Wheat has 60 cycles per hour and makes 20 units per cycle: 1200 wheat per hour. 30 Ecells per cycle at 15cr means 27000cr ressource cost per hour. I sell the wheat for 40cr: 40cr*1200 = 48000cr
48000cr - 27000 = 21000cr profitsss per hour
So BoGas is more profitable, if you can sell it around 400cr per unit, but it will need more float

I've been looking at split sectors at family nyj and tkr deprivation and there is a lack of secondary resources Teladium. It total there are 7 chelts facs that have no teladium, but..... Xenon sector 47s is very close. there is a M and Xl solar plant in Family NYJ.
Its ripe for profitsss.
One thing i need to know is there any way of stopping transports going into the xenon sector?
I've built my teladanium factory in Ghinns Escape and since start up I've been selling the product at 180. I can't make it quick enough, thinking about building another one.

In the fighting/police section i suggest you add the possibility to scan freighters to find smugglers. First you need a police licence. Then you scan ships that traffic in border sectors, both freighters and fighters. Once they have been scanned the smugglgers turn red, and you can capture/kill them without loss of reputation. Somehow they seem easy to capture, often with cargo.
Profitsss and fun, all in one!
