I've been tweaking the speed of my M3 by adding engine upgrades to it above those that you can but at the equipment docks by using the script editor to add the upgrades, much like folks did with X2.
Now... I add a few more engine upgrades to a newly purchased ship and jump it over to the sector I am sitting in. I turn my HUD back on to target it and transfer across as the pilot and boom, CTD.
If I remove the modified ship from the sector everything is fine but as soon as I get close to it with my HUD switched on I CTD every time, even being in the same sector as it causes a CTD.
I'm wondering if the modified engine upgrades are effecting the HUD calculations?
Would anybody care to give this a try as well to confirm my theory? Just in case it's just my install.

Bah it's my install gone bad, I get the same crash whenever I switch my HUD back on now, even on a fresh game.
