I had this problem with the tooltips leaving some very annoying black boxes on the screen. So I made this mod that disables all this mouse tooltips (mouse-overs) and makes those boxes disapear. The regulary game tooltips are unafected.

You can download it from (link removed)
Instructions

No Tips v1.0

This mod let disable all the mouse-overs (tooltips o mouse) that can make in time resident black boxes on screen. Hopefully Egosoft will solve this problem in the upcoming patch.

Installation Instructions

Just unpack this archive in the "Mods" folder from the X3 instalation folder. Run the game and from the initial interface press "Select Mod Package", and then select the "notips" one. Press Ok. Run the game.

All the mouse-overs will be gone and with them the black boxes you had, if any.

Uninstalation

Just unselect the mod from the mod packages

The instructions are also included in the readme file.

P.S. (I am game magazine editor and a have a review copy of this game that has no serial. Please somebody post this on X3 Technical Problems forum, because many have reported this issue there. Thank you!)

Hello

Great works & idea !!

but... is this compatible with current savegames ?

If not, any way to script it in order to clean a game / savegame ?

thanks

This doesnt happen to magically fix the HUD fps drop issue does it?
(thinking that if there is a bug so severe that it sticks popup boxes permanently, maby its also hogging up cpu/gpu power)

It is compatible with any old saved games.

Anyway today I have tested all day, and didn't had any problems.

Great thanks a lot i will try that as soon i leave works , really happy not having to wait 2 weeks and / or not beeing sure this could be fixed Smile

PS : by the way, if we use this mod, and uninstall it in order to use another mod, it will have skipped all the box and so, will have to activate it only from time to time untill the 1.3 fix right ?

This problem has to do with what the game keeps in the saved files. So, if you unselect the mod and play, the old boxes will reappear.

I don't think I can change what the game saves. I presume it is hard coded.

But, in theory, you can rename those files with 05.dat and 05.cat, and copy them in the root instalation directory. This way, just like in X2, you trick the game that this mod is a patch. This would be a solution to use another mod in paralel. (for me works great)

The second solution is to include this mod with the one you want to use by unpacking, merging and repacking with X2 Archiver. There is a very comprehensible included, so it shouldn't be to hard.

Since I put this on the game crashes to the desktop whenever I press a menu key. Keys like fire are fine but the menu system always kills it.

I tried to remove the mod but then X3 won't start. So I'm reinstalling now.

That's annoying cos it all looked great. It makes me remember how annoying these screen errors are.

If anyone has any tips for me I'd appreciate it.

I guess it only takes 15mins to reinstall.

I'll try again.

Edit: same again. Bah! Guess I'll have to wait for 1.3...

Doh! 3 days gone.

It plays a little longer but then still gives up on me. Back to the desktop.

It's odd though because I started a new game and it's working there. It may not even be a problem with your mod but with my saves.

Any more help is still welcome but I hope you won't beat yourself up over it.

Cheers.

You know what I think my troubles were nothing to do with your mod.

I hear about other folks who get corrupted save games where an enemy was in sector at time of save.

Just thought I'd let you know.

My new game looks so much better without the black marks.

Thanks again.
