I'm still awaiting Australia to get their copies of X3.
I've read that X3 has certain starting options / senarioes to start players up with the game.
Is there a way to create your own via a script?

Well, theres most certainly still the ability to create custom 'scenarios' in legendary X2 fashion:
Create a 'custom galaxy' thats an exact replica of the X2 galaxy, then create a script named 'galaxy.<name>.init' with<name> being the nameof the custom galaxy. Inside the script, create at least one ship, outfit it how you like, where you like, etc, then return the variable pointing to that ship. Voila, you have a custom scenario, and when you run a custom game in that galaxy, you will start in the ship returned by the script.
You could also use this method to create scenarios where the player starts with more than one ship, factories, tons of cash, and more.
