Ok so i've found the mamba and the mako but i heard theres other's atleast a falcon and a transport. can any 1 tell me what system these are in?
i don't have time to play the game that much so seraching the galaxy aint a option in a reasonable time

I wrote a little script to check every sector at the start of a 'normal' game, here's a complete list of freebie ships that you can claim straight away:-

Toucan Hauler in sector Menelaus' Frontier (0, 3)
Iguana Vanguard in sector Family Whi (0, 6)
Harrier Sentinel in sector The Vault (0, 13)
Falcon Sentinel in sector Unknown Sector (0, 16)
Buzzard Hauler in sector Family Tkr (3, 14)
Buster Sentinel in sector Akeela's Beacon (6, 8)
Buster Sentinel in sector Treasure Chest (6, 14)
Scorpion Raider in sector Xenon Sector 101 (7, 5)
Mamba Raider in sector LooManckStrat's Legacy (10, 9)
Nova in sector Unknown Sector (10, 18)
Mako Raider in sector Depths Of Silence (13, 0)
Pericles Vanguard in sector Unknown Sector (15, 7)
I won't give exact positions, that'd just be too easy now, wouldn't it!
They show up on the map, shouldn't be too hard to find them!

Try using the straff-drive and go directly down for about 3km, then head towards the gate...
The mines surround the mamba, but only in 2 dimensions I think.
Also, for future reference, the Falcon in Unknown Sector (0, 16) you have to fly through a Xenon Sector, I've left mine there until I get a TL transporter!
Squash mines, annoying little blighters!

Update:
After playing for a few days, I have found two more ships (in Split Fire and Elena's Fortune) that weren't in the game before.
It would appear the game generates them periodically whilst you are playing, maybe as you collect the existing ones?
I may tie the script I have to scan for the ships into the meu's , a sort of 'Salvage Network', that will scan any sectors you have Satellites in for derelict ships...
I've verified the locations of all the above listed ships, (the one in Xenon Sector 101 is a real pain to find, especially with the Xenon there too!)
Any additional ships may be random however, so I'll not list them. If any devs see this, maybe they can let us know how/when these freebie's are generated?

For those who have commented that I should use spoiler tags, sorry if you think I've spoiled your game in any way by revealing this information, but if you can remember what ships and sectors I listed once you're back in the game, you've got a better memory than me!
I specifically DIDN'T give coordinates so as not to spoil peoples enjoyment, and even knowing which sectors some of the ships are in does not guarantee that you will find them...
Also, as another update, the two new ships I found were heavily damaged, I wonder if the pilots were in a fight and bailed out?

I think I've accidently stumbled on a neat little feature which tells you if the sector you're in has a freebie ship, if you have no other ships in the sector.
On 4 seperate occasions where I've used a jumpdrive in a sector with an unclaimed ship in the program has asked me how many followers I want to jump with me. On each occasion though, I've had no other ships in the sector, and it only happens when I'm in a sector with an unclaimed ship in. I haven't claimed any ships either.
I'm still testing this out - has anybody else found this too?

In this case I am in the ship - in my current savegame I don't own any other ships either. But it only seems to happen in these sectors where there are these 'freebies'
