first:
AL Plugin Player Competition

this plugin creates a sector trader that trades any ware in its sector that can be bought and sold in a single sector. one trader is created at every standard trading dock in the universe. if there are more than one trading dock in a sector it only creates one trader at the first one it finds.

special thanks to the guy that created the ship ware array grabber. i'll put his name in here when i find the post again.

also special thanks to burianek for the AL tutorial on his personal page. invaluable resource there.

this little plugin is designed to do 2 things

1) fix the player ship in my custom mod. it would work for any modder who wants to edit it for their own mod. it strips all the equipment and puts my personal loadout depending on what difficulty you have the game set on based on the number of engine tunings installed.

if any modder wants to re-use this for their mod permission granted to alter and re-distribute. no need to ask me. just so long as credit is given etc.

2) fix mission 2 pirates.

any mod that ups the speed of all the ships suffers from the same problem. the mission 2 pirates wind up way over tuned.

every minute it strips every ship in the player sector that has more than the max tunings and installs max tunings +1. ships that do not have over max tunings are not affected.

as with the script for player ships modders, permission granted for redistribution with your mod, and editing if you need to. with due credit etc.

What this mod does:
Playing through the default map the second time(first time was a SETA game and not very fun) after a certain point i realized that the game had some glaring issues that needed fixing.

The first issue i fixed with my player competition AL plugin. In the early game its very difficult to make any money because the entire universe depends on one man/woman (thats you) to stimulate the economy and get things moving. The economy just sits there waiting on you until you get a huge trading empire. later in the game you can actually start to make some credits because you've stimulated the economy to an acceptable level. The thing that bothers me about the later game is that you make ALL the credits. The universe revolves around YOU the player. And that bugs me. SO, the same sector traders do is give you... competition! they dont soak up all of the credits, but you also cant charge max price for wheat in argon space anymore either because the npc wheat farms are producing fairly well. In general the whole economy stabilizes much earlier, and without much intervention from the player, making it much more realistic.

The second issue revolved around space combat. The disparity between the exact same ships at minimum and maximum tuning was immense in every case. You could be flying a nova with max tunings and go up against a nova with minimum tunings and it would be like going up against a totally different ship altogether. It was like night and day. So, what i did was tighten the performance band on all the ships so that you can buy one or two engine tunings, that's all. Sometimes 3 if it's an exceedingly slow ship.

Also regarding space combat, I took issue with the fact that an M5 could easily wipe the floor with just about any m3 and you didnt have to be a very good pilot at all to do it. It should be much more difficult if not completely impossible to down an m3 in an m4, much less an m5.

Destroyers are much much more deadly. Dont expect to hang around a destroyer in a M6 and live very long if it doesnt like you. if you want to take on an M2, bring friends... lots of them. even if you're in an M2 yourself. (M2 battle has not been thoroughly tested, it sortof feels right, but i'm undecided if it'll stay this way yet.)

I do not have the permission to redistribute the scripts, so i will not package them. However, this mod is intended to be played with the following scripts installed:

Ticaki pirates
Redspot Capship.kill

If you are one of the people that uses the strafe drive extention as a crutch so you do not have to learn how to pilot your ship... you're in for a nasty surprise :twisted:

Another thing that bugged me was the xenon traipsing through the galaxy in a long line trying to get back to the remote sectors. It's very unrealistic. So i created gates so that the xenon traipse through the khaak sectors if they need to. If you want to go xenon hunting you have to go to a xenon sector. And you will not be sitting in the safety of black hole sun, treasure chest, Omicron, etc... while you jack xenon ships. You want them, you gotta go to them to get them. or brave the khaak sectors. :lol:

Known issues:
dont install the aegis/guncrews scripts. Only khaak m1/m2's will fire guns with this plugin installed. I have no clue why.

Xai corp andvanced AI project: locks my computer up whenever i try to use it with this mod. Not sure why. probably make the game too hard anyway. with my balances its already hard.

I only programmed the shipyard to build the default ships. You still have to buy the X-Wing, etc... not really an issue, but some folks may not like that.

want some feedback here please. has anyone tried the player competition plugin yet? i started a new game with it on saturday, and noticed that after a short time my new wheat farm in argon prime couldn't charge max price. it seems to stabilize the economy nicely early on. so it looks like it's doing its job.

if anyone's used it, what do you think?
