If X-OU is the new online game that is to be developed by egosoft after the expansion does that mean that there will not be an X3 for single player mode in the coming future?
Is this the end for the X-Universe as a single player game?

Who knows what the future wil bring. Its extremely likely that there will be at least one further single player game before X-online, but there is no guarantee that X-online will ever become reality.
I would bet that even if this does happen, the X series will continue as single player in some form.

I think enough people have stated their distaste for online persistent games that Egosoft intend to continue to support the single player concept as well as the online game.
Egosoft's ultimate goal is to make an online universe where everybody can play the part of a person, and where that universe is the X universe. That is what they want to do, and is really why Egosoft exists. The single player games are a happy by-product!

Don't get me wrong, I like the idea for X-OU the online multiplayer game but if egosoft were to do this it would take years to create and then years to improve and create patches and would there would no be enough time to create a single player game.

I do worry that in an online X universe if you joined a while into th e game you'd occasionally just find your sector had been wiped out by a rich psycho in an M2...
It's a fun idea but I'm really not sure that Ego will ever be able to make it playable for anyone who doesn't spend 24 hours a day online..
See other massive 24-7 online games like planetarion.. After the first time I played my team had to join a faction and had to work shifts (eg 10 players in the UK, 5 in the US and a couple in Australia and so on.) to defend or attack. the struggle not to be annialated takes alot of time (and 2am calls to defend each other).. More effort than I ever wanted.

If that's true, too bad, then. Because those "by-products" were what some people here -including my humble person- seems to enjoy the most. Not that online universe thingy.Brianetta wrote: Egosoft's ultimate goal is to make an online universe where everybody can play the part of a person, and where that universe is the X universe. How do you know that, btw?

Maybe it depends how they go about the online thing. I can see that online games could be far more playable than the current genre, even with a mere 56k line.
Handled right 56k coupled with a modern comp could bea very powerful thing, easily capable of competing with the current crop.
The thing that Egosoft has shown itself to be excellent at is stretching the envelope to create new solutions and to breathe life into their universe as an ongoing project - which might make their online game significantly 'different.'
Just keep the ideas coming in, and don't forget to save a few of the best until you are offered payment.

Maybe we have to buy one of those Head things (Don’t know what they are called) and be connected to the internet all the time, then we get a message telling us we are under attack.Brianetta wrote:Yes. I'd worry about my X property while I was in bed, or at work. Even if I get an SMS text message on my phone to tell me my stuff's being attacked, it's naff-all use if it's still four hours before I can start to walk home.
I think that would be the right time to destroy our computers.
